update: i just received my third or probably fourth bottle of this peppermint oil, and this time it doesn't appear to be as strong. it doesn't offend my nose if i get too close. i have placed soaked samples from this bottle and the last bottle (as a comparison) on vinyl sheeting to see if either or both reacts, i.e., start to dissolve the plastic, which has happened with this product in the past. thing is with essential oils, at any time the manufacturer can start cutting the supposedly uncut oil. i tried to contact the manufacturer and didn't see a path to do it. if there is no reaction to the 12 gauge plastic by tomorrow, i'll post it and lower the stars. if there is a strong reaction to the plastic, i'll remove this update and/or keep the stars at 5. i'm using this to keep mice out of an empty house, had tried several brands of supposedly uncut peppermint oil until i found this one. the original review remains below. i have found this to be very potent and effective as a rodent deterrent. I have compared several different products, and this one has been the strongest. When I put a cotton ball soaked with this on a plastic tablecloth it starts to disintegrate the plastic right away. The smell sticks around a long time. My mom's car is sitting without being started in our driveway, and we live on a mountain. I put a large cotton ball soaked with this underneath her hood on a metal piece that covers the air filter. You can smell that peppermint in her driveway without opening the hood and when the hood is open there are no animal signs. It's probably protecting the vehicle right next to hers as well. Then I read about adding a mix of peppermint essential oil and water and maybe some lemon essential oil to diatomaceous earth, and mixing it into a paste, because the diatomaceous earth holds on to the scent longer, and you can revive when needed by moistening it and adding a little bit more essential oil. I made that mixture this morning with this peppermint essential oil and took it around my moms house to leave a little gift of hospitality to rodent holes any place I could find that they could get under the house or where they had dug a hole. When you hear and read that peppermint oil doesn't work for rodents, I am convinced it's because there's a lot crap out there sold as pure uncut peppermint oil. Granted this is in plastic, so I will not cook with it. But I just got it to offend mice and spiders and flies. wasps, bees, unwelcome critters generally. your moms house is empty. Otherwise I wouldn't fill it with the scent of peppermint. I have peppermint balls and now little lumps of this diatomaceous earth with peppermint all over the house sitting on glass saucers to fill the scent of the house with peppermint. This way, we don't have to kill things; we just cause them to not want to be in the space. did I say that I had to try several brands to find a strong one like this? I think Now is pretty good, and it comes in glass, but it's more expensive. I'm not sure if it used to be or if it went up with Covid. If I was going to cook with it AND use it as a rodent deterrent, I would buy the Now brand.

Purchased this to use as an anti-mouse/rodent device in vehicles stored over the winter. The product is very strong/concentrated and should do the job. Much more economical than buying the tiny amounts typically sold at pharmacies or health food stores.

This is one of those products where you quickly realize you used way too much the first time — because a few drops truly scent an entire bottle. Peppermint works well as a bug deterrent, and I like mixing it into unscented disinfectant cleaner for a fresh smell. Bonus: my house smells spa-like while insects get the hint to stay outside.
