Review: In my search for help with starting an AIP way of eating, I have struggled with finding reliable resources that worked for me. A lot of what is promoted as AIP or Anti-Inflammatory is anything but, and seems to be assembled hastily by unqualified authors before what they see as a fad runs its course. Finding this book was a relief. A quick note to any fellow migraine sufferers to say that some of the ingredients will need to be substituted if you know they are triggers for you. Some of the recipes here feature onions, apple cider vinegar, collagen, gelatine, and some fermented items. You can easily find info on migraine diet triggers and substitutions online. Michelle Hoover has walked the walk with this way of eating, and has had a successful website for a number of years. The tone of the book is easygoing and there is just enough information about AIP to inform, but it is a cookbook and that makes up the majority of the book, which is a relief. There is enough info about autoimmune conditions out for those interested in the medical information. Here we cut to the recipes quick. The recipes are accessible and I found very few ingredients that I couldn't find either at a major shop or online. That being said, they do need to be prepared from scratch, so if you are expecting a way to throw together "convenience" food and make this work, it won't happen. You will have to prep and cook. Though the plan is to eat this way for at least a month before reintroducing foods, do what you can if it seems overwhelming to start. Every step away from inflammatory foods and stress will pay off. Please don't be put off by the misinformed negative review. A quick search for info on AIP would clearly reveal that it is not a vegetarian or vegan diet, and is not intended to be. It is standard knowledge that meat and seafood are part of the plan, and bone broth is featured. Both the front and back cover of the book, the description as we'll as the "Look Inside" feature show this. Last I heard desertcart also had a liberal return policy.
