As many other reviews state, there IS a funky odor right away. Calm down. It's a natural fiber rug and the smell will go away in a week or two. I was expecting nothing but the natural fiber rug, that was my mistake (the description DID mention the extra colors). There are several strands of blue/bray/natural looking strings woven throughout the rug to help hold it together. Those colors matched my decor so it was not a deal-breaker. The rug is large and thick. It is NOT soft, but it's not supposed to be. It looks great and would be an excellent choice to layer another rug over it. The only downside is that there are a few "joints" (points where one rope ends and another is added) where fibers are coming apart and my puppy seems to take those frizzies as an invite to dig. I'm also concerned that it will be difficult to clean IF there comes a time where the pup makes a mess of one kind or another. I'd be likely to move this into the screened porch or patio and buy another when wear sets in.

Very coarse, rope like texture. What was really intolerable was the smell. Very petrol chemical. It made my eyes water. Someone who has experience with jute rugs explained that insects breed in them. Apparently, the rug was treated with insecticide to prevent bug infestation.

Nice and serves the purpose to blend in decor and give the kitty a play rug while still looking like it belongs there. The touch of gray blended in makes rug more interesting and attractive. Very pleased with purchase.

Very nice rug. Unfortunately i have to return it because it's for a side hallway and too thick for the door to open over it. I would definitely consider this for another area in my home. The blue in the weave is very subtle, actually more of a light grey, and it's just the right amount of light color to add dimension to the weave..

Really like this runner. It’s exactly what I was looking for, some had mentioned that it shed, I have not had that problem. From the beginning it laid flat, I don’t had a pad under it and it does not shift on the tile floor. Good buy!!!
