Review: This new book dropped on my doorstep 2 weeks ahead of schedule so that was a good start! This is the second in the series that I assume will cover the whole of Brazil but it's a pity it arrived 6 years after the first, at that rate I won't live to see the whole series! Having said that, it is a beautifully illustrated book with the text and range maps opposite the pictures, as all good field guides should be. It is quite a hefty book but what can you expect with so many birds and I would certainly prefer to have these larger illustrations to pick out fine details of a bird rather than having them squashed up. It does cover a limited area of the country but is a must have book for those participating in Birdfinders tours formerly the Serra dos Tucanos Lodge and now Eco-Lodge Itororo. I have not 'proof read' the book in it's entirety but I did notice a major mistake on page 206 where White-wedged Piculet has it's text repeated but no text for Golden-spangled Piculet although the map is for Golden-spangled Piculet! Hopefully this error has not been repeated with other birds otherwise the value of this book will be greatly diminished. Assuming that is not the case, this is the book that we will be recommending to all our clients who visit Eco-Lodge Itororo. Review: Outstanding field guide art, lots of identification information, and excellent introductory material that stresses the importance of Brazil's Atlantic forests as well as serving as a general interaction to birding in Brazil make this text an outstanding field guide, possibly the best published in 2016. The Wildlife Conservation Society has reason to be very proud. A key publication in any collection of South American ornithology. Worth twice the price. Buy it today!
