This looks terrific and is small enough but can't remember if it's glass or plastic on temperature gauge. The metal is easy to clean, however, it isn't accurate and takes forever to show temperature. I threw it out as I was past the return date.

Where along the probe does it measure temperature if using for ambient air? At the very tip, or along the length of the probe somewhere?

Food Health Inspectors measures refrigerator temperatures using a glass of water with a stick thermometer (placed in the middle of the refrigerator for an hour or so) since water is a good gauge for temperature (freezes at 32F and boils at 212F). I supposed you can measure the ambient air using the same method otherwise use a glass mercury/alcohol thermometer.
