Save the money and use a pan and blender
When I told a friend that I was going to buy a soup maker she said don't bother. Just use a pan and a blender. I replied I wanted a machine that just does it all for me. I should have listened to her. I had already decided that this Clarity was the one I wanted a while before Which Magazine made it their Product Of The Year. I've been getting that mag for decades. Now I'm wondering which planet they're on.I wanted chunky soup. I coarsely chopped up my ingredients, put them in with the stock and started it. Nearly half an hour later it beeped to tell me it had finished. All it had done was boil. I looked through the manual and saw the part that I'd missed about manually selecting blend. No information about how long for, so every time it's just hit and miss. Just a scant few seconds reduces pretty much all of it to smooth.A good number of reviewers here praise it for the "lovely soups" it makes. Honestly, all it does is boil and blend. It's like buying a Mercedes and letting it take credit for you being a good driver. One fault overlooked by Which and as far as I can tell every review here, including the page-long gushing reviews of free products, is the fact that the max and min markings are difficult to see when empty, and almost impossible to see when you've put your products and liquid in. I shouldn't have to be drawing lines with a marker pen.So what's the point of this soup maker? I could have just as easily boiled it in a pan then used my hand blender. No issues with cutting out due to burning that admittedly I haven't experienced so far unlike plenty of other buyers. But I have had burned food stick to the heating plate. A pan is also easy to clean, as is my blender. I can see me eventually reclaiming the space this machine occupies, give it to a friend, and stick to pan and blender.Update:After a couple of month's use, I've knocked another star off. I've just spent 3 days cleaning the burned food off the heating plate. And not the first time. Soaking in detergent. Scraping. More soaking. More scraping. The so-called "cleaning" function is as much use as waxed toilet paper. Why they didn't make the heater non-stick is beyond me. As for Which making it their Product of the Year - I despair at that magazine.

Great soup and easy to use, mostly.
Makes proper soup easily. The instructions would be 1 star though. Much trial and error early on. I could write a great guide now, and I love this machine. Yes you can make lentil soup too. Just start with lining of oil on the base ( I always do this). Then onion. Celery then potato up to about 650 to 700g. Add stock to top line then about 50g of red lentils absolutely last thing. Took me a long while to get this right. Mushrooms are a problem too. But you can do it with practice. In 18 months I have made about 120 + soups. My only design quible is the measuring lines are impossible to see. I put two marks with a sharpie pen on each side.

Love this
Love this - like the fact that you can see the soup as it is cookedClean function is brilliantInstructions not very good - I kept getting an alarm and the lid wouldn’t lock so ended up googling it and I had over filled it but no mention of that in the instructions

Love it!
Best thing i ever got! Get home from work tired and just chuck everything in there whilst i have shower, have for 7 months now still looks new, not very heavy, the noise is a bit loud but only for a few minutes, very good price for the product.

Do I need the lid seal?
the lid seal was torn when I opened the new package. How essential is the seal ? It seems to be working fine without it, but this is my first attempt at using it
