The Definitive Edition
I was waiting, I know not how long, but waiting for what seemed an eternity.. and then on than cold and windy morning I heard the ominous sound of my front gate opening... creaking like the sound of chains being stretched to breaking point. My heart beat quickened as I heard a THUD.. THUD... THUD.. of footsteps coming down the lawn... Then all was silent. I strained my sense, on the edge of my seat, but all I could hear was the foreboding sense of dread creeping down my legs like yellow water... And then it happened. A package came through the door. Inside, I knew what it was. I've always known. You may think me mad or deluded if you had heard me, scrambling to the door and ripping open the cardboard which imprisoned my treasure. I laughed manically at the delicious thoughts of tentacles and unspeakable things from the depths.. and yes! Here it was... The Book. It was now mine!

The INCOMPLETE Fiction of H. P. Lovecraft
I bought this with the intention of downsizing my collection and having everything contained in one volume rather than scattered through several books and having multiples of the same story. With that in mind, I carefully cross checked all the stories from my existing collection against this book.Missing are:Poetry and the GodsArthur JermynThe Crawling ChaosImprisoned with the PharoahsNathicanaIn the Walls of EryxIt's a hefty collection, but for the very misleading title I'm giving it one star.

This edition has been a long time in coming to my notice and I'm going to savour it like a fine wine in a cosy atmosphere
I first came across H.P.Lovecraft's works in the late 60's, then I purchased a rare second edition of some of his stories in the early 70's for the princely sum of £28, when the average wage was £19. This edition has been a long time in coming to my notice and I'm going to savour it like a fine wine in a cosy atmosphere. I know that I will not be disappointed with my purchase.

It would have been nice to be able to READ the thing.....
It seemed almost too good to be true - the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft at such a cheap price. All became (almost literally ) clear when I opened this lovely-looking and well-bound door-stop of a volume and tried to read the words of this spooky and shiver-inducing writer. Published in America (usually a good sign as the Americans know how to produce fine-quality books) this was printed in China and is being returned as it's barely readable - printed in just-about grey, rather than black. Unless this was just a 'rogue ' copy which slipped through - which seems unlikely - I can't imagine why the publishers didn't reject the whole edition. Very disappointing.
