Headline Review A Place for Us: An unputdownable tale of families and keeping secrets by the SUNDAY TIMES bestseller

Run of the mill
The blurb compares Harriet Evans to Rosamund Pilcher, Maeve Binchy and Jojo Moyes and this is what is disappointing about this book. In all her previous books, Harriet Evans has had a distinctive voice and a spark of originality. A Place For Us, is, in comparison, very run of the mill, one of a whole host of books with similar themes and characters. It is well written, Harriet Evans is a good writer, but it did not give the pleasure of her previous books. That extra element/spark was missing.

Not your typical family...
I really got into it in the beginning, the characters are really interesting and believable. Im about 2 thirds of the way through and the events in it took a turn that i didnt see coming and i havent been able to read the rest for the moment .. i definitely will finish it at some point but i was finding it a bit depressing.

It’s Chick Lit
The publishers blurb calls the book ‘unputdownable’,well I put it down pretty quickly. It’s chick lit and not for me.
