Would a air stone fit inside the tube and sponge?

Inside the sponge is a small tube to bring air to the bottom of the sponge. I suppose you might be able to cut that out to fit an air stone.

Does this create large bubbles ?

The size and volume of the bubbles depends on airflow. If it's hooked up to an unrestricted air pump it will produce relatively large bubbles. I put a valve on the tubes leading to the filters in my betta tanks and turn the flow way down, but in my larger community tanks they're unrestricted so they get lots of aeration.

Does this float being a light weight sponge

I purchased the large sponge and yes mine floated for the first 24 hours, even with the weighted base. Once it absorbs water, you’re fine.

Would this need an air pump for shallow water for a fiddler crab tank?

For this to work you need water level up to the top of the uplift tube with an air pump or powerhead
