What is the difference between the "standard brush roll" and the "gentle brush roll" on this model? I have tile, carpet, & wood floors.

This is a great option to have; I use ot every time i vaccuum! I have cats and so when I switch from bedroom/carpet to bathroom/tile, I switch to gentle brush, which slows down the power and sucks up the loose litter vs. throwing it all around the room. Definitely worth the extra charge.

is the cord auto rewind

No, the vacuum has to "sprockets" and you simply wrap the cord on the sprockets. It's very simple but works great.

Is it OK to remove the canister and clean under cold running water?

You would be fine if you made sure everything was dry before putting the canister back on the vacuum. Double check with the owners manual if you have any concerns.
