Nice after a long day or emotional stress
I got this for my boyfriend he use to get acupuncture treatments years ago for migraines. I thought I'd find something cheap see how it works then if it did nothing I wouldn't feel like I wasted money. He likes it it dosen't always work for him but he uses it. He says the needles are to picky and to wear a shirt not a silk tank top when I stole it to try. I didn't listen to him I just wanted to know. Yes it is picky sharp but I like the pain it gives. One pain normally cancels the other out. Plus this can actually be used in many areas head, shoulders mid back, lower back, stomach, thighs, arms I guess butt lol . I love it I feel pain relief, stress relief and especially emotional stress relief when using it. I think I made a good choice when opting to go cheaper than expensive. The price tag doesn't always mean quality and when I wasn't sure it would be something he'd even like I went cheaper instead of $$$. I'm happy and he's happy and that's all that matters.

With Reasonable Expectations, This Mat is The Bomb
I was in a car accident and while the lawyers and the doctors were trying to sort me out, I needed something in addition to pain management therapy and chiropracty for my intense back and neck pain. I bought it, received it, opened it immediately and laid on it. After the first day, I use it multiple times a day for 30-90 minute intervals - that's how good it is. The biggest thing I've discovered is that you have to adjust your expectations immediately when you start dealing in alternative treatments (like acupuncture in general). This mat is not a panacea, a cure-all that will immediately make your pain vanish. It will not replace your pain meds or your physical therapy or your doctor's recommendations. Do all that stuff first. Then, when you need just a little extra help dealing with the pain (because pain sometimes is just going to happen and it's truly awful), try this IN CONJUNCTION with your other therapies, and you will be a pink-cheeked, grinning, happy camper. How it seems to work for me:The pain the mat addresses > My back problems come from discs and tendons and such being out of whack. The pain lasts all day but get's particularly excruciating at night. My entire spine seems to light up with pain, but two major centers, one in my tailbone and one at the base of my neck, are extra extra extra excruciating. Best way to describe it is a cold, tingling-like fire of pain, bursting from those two centers and shooting through my torso and into my arms and legs. The longer the night progresses, the worse the pain. How it addresses it > What seems to happen is that when I lay on the mat, the tingling-burning sensation SPREADS. Sounds weird (and it is) but here's how that's a good thing. I lay down and the tingling-burning spreads, like it becomes equally distributed across the entire surface of my body that is contact with the mat. The tingling becomes tingling not just centered and glowing from those two major centers of pain, but spread equally across all the parts of my body that had contact with the spikes. I stay there for 30-90 minutes (as long as my skin can stand the spikes on the mat) and then I get off and the sensation of equally distributed pain sticks around for maybe an hour. In that way, the pain centers seem quiet and what was a crazy excruciating ball of fire in my back and neck, becomes a much milder discomfort across my whole torso, neck, and head. Sounds like a weird situation: to trade one center of pain for dozens of tiny little ones (where the spikes dug in) but, oh my god, after dealing with the pain as it began, it feels absolutely wonderful. As I try to do things off the mat (dishes, change clothes) the pain starts to recenter and gather strength again at the base of my neck and back, but when it gets too bad and the meds simply cannot suffice, then I crawl back on the mat and sigh with real relief. It works. If you let go of the idea that this is going to completely banish your pain and instead will just help control it, then you will not be disappointed. As far as helping you sleep and deal with stress, I can't say. I don't use it to meditate like some of the other reviewers, but perhaps I should. Sounds like some meditation combined with the mat might be in order.Last word: Get over the skin-pain. Yes, your skin will not be too happy with little golf-cleats digging into it all the time. Yes, it will take time for your skin to adjust. But it's not bad. I've stayed on it a maximum of 90 minutes and still felt fine. The spikes don't break your skin or give you bruises or anything. Just uncomfortable at first and then it passes.

THE BEST WAY TO GET STARTED WITH AN ACUPRESSURE MAT AND PILLOW SET
I bought one a few days ago and love it. I must say, when I first removed it from the packaging, I was shocked at how spikey and sharp it is. It feels like a bed of needles more than a bed of nails. Be very careful removing it from the plastic wrap. I viewed other people on You Tube using similar mats from other companies and they don't remark on the extreme sharpness of the needles. Could it be that the Zen Guru bed of nails acupressure mat is that much sharper? They certainly look the same. In addition, I really like that Zen Guru has included magnets in both the pillow and the mat. The first night, I first tried it with a tee shirt on but didn't feel anything so then I carefully laid on it without a shirt and wow did it feel sharp and the pillow really hurt the back of my head. I was only able to lay on it for about 30 seconds. I then put them both away high up in my closet so my grandkids wouldn't find it. The next day I decided to place it on my couch back and sitting upright, laid back on it. This allowed me to adjust the pressure of my weight. It felt much more tolerable. I adjusted the mat up high enough to rest my neck on the top part of my couch with my head back. I move my head from side to side as I put as much pressure as I could handle. I was able to use it for over an hour this way. The cushion also allowed the mat to conform to the contour of my back. I tried using the pillow as a lumbar support but this is going to take some getting used to. I suggest if you do use the pillow as a lumbar support, just sit back on it gently for a few weeks. I'm pretty sure I will be able to put much more pressure the more I use it. I do love using the pillow for my feet and also in my lap for my hands while sitting back on the mat. Use the pillow for the bottom of your feet and also move your feet around so that portions of the top of your feet get some needle time. I'm really enjoying my mat and pillow now.

Love it, love it, love it!!!
This thing was a life saver for me! I think if you're not used to high degree of pain, you would take the feedback from others very seriously with any attempt to use this for the first time. Based on my own personal issues, I was on this thing as soon as I got it for at least 30 minutes - I actually almost fell asleep because I relaxed so much in a rapid manner. My first attempt on it included my t-shirt due to my fear that it would be painful. Heck, I couldn't feel the pressure I needed for my back, so I quickly tossed the T and went onto the mat. THANK GOODNESS! It was heaven to me. (Given the costs of massages now, it is just not in my budget for what I need from someone to REALLY work me out.)After lying on the mat and the head rest, I also decided to take use of the pillow and mat for my hands and feet. Again, I have some really odd things going on with the body. Standing on the mat was another plus for the feet. I used the pillow to press my hands into the material to relieve the crazy restlessness and internal itching sensations I have been experiencing. With attacking all areas of the body that presented some major issues for me, I was back in business an hour later. I will most likely purchase an additional set just for travel purposes. I can appreciate this a great deal because I do not have to rely on the services of someone else for relief. It is even more a challenge because too many massage therapists do not know how to handle my body, which results in my have even more problems after they touch me.

A lot sharper and smaller than expected
I got this for my husband because he has neck and head pain, especially when sitting on our couch for too long, since he's considerably taller than the back, and so he keeps stealing my nursing pillow for had and neck support when kicking back and binging with me, or when he's playing his video games. I bought this in the hopes of getting my pillow back, but this product, which does advertise being acupressure, has such SHARP points that he can't rest on it without a cover. The first time he tried, it actually broke the skin! Then, it says it's an adult size, but it barely fits around his neck. It's even a little tougher than I like on me, and I'm pretty small. It did alleviate some of the tension in his neck and shoulders, but again, only with a cloth over the points and he could only handle it for so long due to the size. Thumbs down 👎, do not recommend.
