He is riding an older bike of mine that was 3x9, then single speed, now 1x11. It was nice that almost everything needed is in the box. I did purchase a chainring separately. I was on a Christmas time crunch, but looking back I would have price shopped a bit more, as it seems most online bike stores would be cheaper for all SLX parts. But a lot of bike e-tailers are out of certain parts, and this was ready to go kit. I will say that we got an Oval 32 chainring which is probably a bit small for 26 wheels and his majority road riding. We will probably purchase a 36 front to get a little more out of the back range. Also, we did not know to use an extender that 1 reviewer mentioned. I need to do more research on this for older 26 bikes. It does seem to work, but not sure if it is optimal without the extender. Review: I will be buying another of these kits. Installed without issue and took very little adjustment to dial it in. Shifts well under power. Replace the entire wheel with something compatible. Make sure the axle spacing matches your frame. You will also need to make this a 1 x 11. If you want to do a 2x11, get the option with the 11-42 tooth cassette. If you opt for the 2x11 , I would recommend the removal of the outer chainring, replace it with a chain guard to take up the outer step on the spider and protect your calf. This will give you a 32x11 top gear and a 22x46 low gear (I am assuming your crankset is a 22/32/42). If you opt for the 1x, you should just get a new crankset. An inexpensive one with a square taper should do the trick. I would suggest a 28 to 32 tooth front sprocket. Your choice depends on the terrain you plan to ride and your fitness. I noticed a response that says you need an XD adapter. I do not think this is the case.
