Super Happy with this Rod! Let me give you the skinny as to why I’m giving it five stars.
So I will begin with my primary method of fishing is fly casting with Orvis Zero Gravity and in all other forms of fishing I have waded through the ranks of the box store tackle isle of products. In college I liked the construction of St. Croix’s fly rods though I wasn’t about to replace the ZG for the run of mill university loaner St. Croix seemed like a logical foray out of the box store isle for a spinning rod. I choose the Triumph because I’m used to 4 piece and it will fit perfectly in a sailboat cockpit locker. First Impression: When I go it the quality is evident in the weight and materials of construction. Paired with the Diawa Legalit reel which was equally impressive. First Use: The action and speed takes a dozen casts to get used to after decades of combo kits (results may vary tell your own tales.) After a few hours of fishing I found the casting capabilities highly accurate and lure placement with each cast predictable in the fingertips with a variety of baits and bait weight. Subsequent Use: Over the summer thus far it’s become my go to rod on the water. Plain and simple this rod is super responsive and the difference is vast you will feel the difference in a nibble and a blade of bottom vegetation on retrieval and that allows you to present the bait so much more naturally to the fish. Value: It’s a long way from the 2k setup on my fly equipment but this rod is not inferior to the quality of craftsmanship. So for under $300 the rod and reel setup I made based off St. Croix’s website at the time (how I chose the reel) what your getting is a setup leaps and bounds over any combo box store special I’ve ever fished.

St. Croix for the win! Cheers
Great travel Rod! Landed a 20 pound permit on a recent trip to Belize. Great feel for a four piece rod.

Take a Spare Rod
I purchased 3 St Croix travel rods for an annual fishing trip - Light, Medium Light, and Medium. I purchased the medium rod last year and it snapped in half at the second section while fishing this year. I've fished for over 50 years and have never had a rod snap. When I checked the warranty, I found that a rod purchased last year is already out of warranty and would cost $80 to replace. I contacted St Croix and did not get a response. It appears that St Croix Fishing Rods has achieved the Hat Trick - Poor Quality, Poor Warranty, and Poor Customer Service. Look elsewhere for a good quality travel rod!

Can't say enough about this rod
In fact, there is nothing bad I can say about these rods or St. Croix's dedication to craftsmanship you can use for a lifetime. Everything I've had that looks and feels this good in my hands has always ended up on the shelf for safe keeping. I had my last two travel Triumph rods stolen out of the back of my suv. It took me a season to be able to replace one. I felt as if a part of me wasn't able to fish with just any rod. I was anxious. A little stressed out. Damn offspring kept eating my fishing pole money week after week! Love for me through. Because I love my triumph!! Ha ha!! ( yes, the girls too.) I finally ordered the medium heavy fast action rod, and it was better than my first two which were the ultra lights. This one has a nice pearly blue color with depth in the paint itself. Have I got to use it yet? Nope, just waiting for some ice to break up, or Snow To let Me At the river. Til then, it's sitting ready to for its debut. I have no doubt of it's performance to come. As I have none of my mojo bass' or my fly rod. They are the best rods I have ever used in 42 years. I don't feel that I could spend more and get better.

New favorite travel rod
My new favorite travel rod and my first rod over $50. This rod has impressed me from its build quality, feel and strength on its first few uses. I will say it is much lighter then my other medium rods but the guide spacing helps maintain composure under stress. I hope to use this for many years to come. I feel I have landed more quality fish by being able to detect bites more easily.

Broke first time out - $60 for a replacement
6'6" MH rod broke at the tip and above the second guide while fighting the first northern pike caught while on a canoe trip in the BWCA. Was left without a complete rod for the rest of the trip. After, St. Croix customer service needed over 2 weeks to process the claim, and almost another month to send out a replacement rod. Also the replacement cost to me was $60 for shipping and processing. If you buy this from Amazon get the extended warranty - it has to be better than dealing with St. Croix directly. Taking a Shakespeare Ugly Stik on my next fishing trip, very disappointed in St. Croix's quality and customer service.

2 pound bass snapped the rod at the thickest point first time out
The worst quality rod I have ever owned , they claim to be the best rods on earth . I thought I was spending good money to receive a quality travel rod . First time out fishing this year I got a 2 pound bass to my buddy’s boat and the rod snapped at the shaft down by the handle . It might be ok for a sunfish or small perch . Bass no chance
