Why is my unicorn refusing to do anything but sleep?

All GigaPets want to sleep from 9:30 pm to 7:30 am. It will not do anything else during those hours. Check the clock on your GigaPet. If you are an early bird or a night owl, you can always reset/adjust the clock to fit better with your daily schedule — I did this and it works great!

Why does my Unicorn not have any sound? I made sure it was not on mute.

Not sure. When my daughter has her sound turned on, there are only. Couple sound effects though. Maybe contact the seller and see if they'll replace yours.

I’ve found better luck with taking out the battery, then hitting the reset button on the back and then putting the battery back in and that finally brought me to the reset screen
