Panther Crabs or Parathelphusa Panthernia are fully aquatic crabs originally from Indonesia. Panther Crabs are one of the few species of crab that can be kept completely in water with no land area. They are about 3 inches in diameter not counting their legs when fully grown. Panther Crabs tend to be friendly with their own species and may be kept in groups together. They are very easy to care for and seem to be relatively hardy. They prefer very tropical temps between 76 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit and a PH of 7.5-8.5. These crabs are pretty easily sexed. The males are typically ivory on their underside and may have black striped patterns over the ivory. They will breed in freshwater. They are easy to feed and will eat a wide variety of both dried and frozen omnivorous foods. They are peaceful enough to be kept with other fish, but caution should be taken as they will take a swipe at slower or larger fish. Ideally they should be kept with fast surface to middle tank fish. Panther Crabs need hiding places and it is best to provide a cave or dark space large enough for each crab you keep to house him or herself in. Like other aquatic crabs, these guys can be excellent escape artists, so it is very important to make sure they are housed in a secure, covered aquarium. With their spots and interesting color patterns, plus interesting personalities, these crabs make a great addition to your freshwater aquarium. They are hardy enough for beginners and experienced hobbyist alike
