Excellent company. Metal case with one mixing area. I placed 4 empty pans I had on hand and placed in the middle row and will fill with artist grade paint. The water reservoir design is unique. The mixing area opens at an angle so might prop up or if hold in your hand to paint would keep it better aligned. Comes with swatch card. Paints highly pigmented. It's quite expensive at over $80 USdollars. Try to always buy the best quality paint products you can. It really does make a difference, Same for paper.

Creamy, vibrant, stunning high quality paints! The color selection in this palette is exceptional. I like This paint for so many reasons, but briefly, I love that you can paint thick and bold, or translucent and dreamy and all sorts of inbetween and have stable consistent lasting color. If you like to paint on trips, vacations, or visits to the park, you will have every color you need and several convenience colors to paint with, including flesh tones. The palette tin is the same as the Sennelier tin of 48 paints. I sand down the sharp edges with sand paper, and I don't rely on the clips to hold the paints in. I add magnets to the bottoms of the pans. I write the color name and brand name on the pans in black sharpie. This way I can use my favorite paints in a smaller tin if I have need of a smaller palette. Adding magnets does add some weight to the palette. Overall, this paint is worth the cost. A little really does go a long way. If you buy it use it, don't treat it precious and be afraid to have fun with it. The only wasted art tool is one that is not used and life is just too short to have things that bring you joy and not use them.

What can I say? This was a great way to be introduced to the Schmincke watercolor line! The palette, which was crafted in Italy, cost at least $80 without any paints at all. Therefore, for me, it was as if I received 8 half pans Schmincke watercolors for free! I've yet to fill it with water; but I have used the paints and the palette to mix the colors. I thought that it was a lovely entry point price wise, quality wise, and beauty and purity of the chosen colors. Schmincke watercolors are clean, exquisite, and delicate. You would be surprised at all of the color combinations that can be coaxed out of the 8 pans. I've used this palette and paints quite frequently, and have also added an additional two palettes and 22 more Schmincke colors to my collection.

I have complete faith in the paint quality. The enamel paint job is poor. Looks like rough sandpaper on the bottom of the cup. I hope the physical integrity and strength of the box holds up to keep the paint secure. It does not feel as solid as other Schmincke pan sets that I own. I've been using this brand for 30 years. Quality control needs improvement on this particular set. The paint is stellar but I was disappointed when I opened the box. The painted box is marginal to poor.

OMG! What a deal! Schmincke paints are the absolute best watercolor paints out there. Made in Germany they are typically very expensive here in the US but this travel set is the perfect entry into this brand. The color selection is perfect for urban, landscape, and floral painting. The palette is sturdy and about the size of a deck of cards with maybe 1/4 thicker. Its size is very convenient and I find myself grabbing it instead of my bigger watercolor palette just because the smaller size is easier while taking up less real estate on my drawing table. There is a similar travel palette that has generic paints for $5 less. Spend the extra $5 for the Schmincke paints, the difference in the paint quality will be day and night. I would highly recommend this palette for studio and en plein air. If you're considering buying a travel palette......this is the one you want.

Beautiful selection of watercolors in a very beautiful box with a porcelain watercolor tray, the selection of colors are very stunning. The watercolors are very pigmented and smooth to use and a very good selection of different colors to choose from. This is a very high quality product for any professional artist. They are very expensive but you can see why.

Amazing pigment. I wish when I started watercolor I didn’t listen to the YouTube creators that said get a cheap pan of paints. All it caused was frustration I could not get the color depth I wanted. I spent more money testing paints when if I would have just picked one of the top few. The quality is top notch!

Schmincke's Horadam line of watercolors are among the top brands in the world and the quality of the watercolor pans and tubes are fantastic. The 3 star rating I'm providing here is for the composition of the SET itself. One would think that in this understandably pricey but "generous" 48-color half-pan set, Schmincke would have at least included a couple of indispensable colors. The omission of RAW UMBER and COBALT BLUE were pretty glaring. Raw umber is indispensable -- it is among the few single pigment earth colors that has a naturally cool masstone. Instead, this set substitutes for it a "Sepia Brown" which is not true sepia but a rather muddy hue of Phthalo and black pigments. The traditional earth color RAW SIENNA is also missing from this set. Another glaring omission is the absence of Cobalt Blue (PB28) which results in a disturbing gap in the classic middle/neutral blue spectrum that is so important especially for the botanical artist. Instead, a hue called "Mountain Blue" -- a mixture of Ultramarine, Lithopone White and Phthalo Green, all cheaper pigments by the way -- is used to fill this middle blue spectrum. I find the addition of white pigment to recreate a middle tone blue especially bothersome. I expected that would from lesser brands, but Schmincke? Also, Burnt Sienna pigment composition is questionable. Rather than genuine Burnt Sienna (PBr7), the pigment composition of this set's Burnt Sienna is that of the rather strong synthetic red iron oxide (PR101) and bone black pigment (PBk9). This pigment composition results in a heavy-handed brownish red hue that does not have the natural nuance and subtlety of the traditional, genuine Burnt Sienna. Lastly, while this set is being advertised as a 48 half pan set, there are in fact only 47 colors. The 48th pan contains an ox-gall additive (a non-color) which one can use to aid in the flow of the paints. Then there are the 2 whites -- Titanium and Zinc -- and the 2 metallics (gold and silver). So in more practical terms, when the oxgall, the 2 whites and the the 2 metallics are shoved to the side, there are actually only 43 colors when viewed from a more traditional watercolor standpoint (unless one actually would need to use the 2 whites and the 2 metallics, of course, which in my case would be nil). Anyone considering to purchase this set would be well advised to look at the color selection very closely, as well as the pigment composition of the individual colors. Overall, I am happy with my purchase because of the quality of the paints themselves but I found the color selection in this set a bit wanting. Which means I will end up purchasing several colors separately which runs counter as to why I purchased this set in the first place.

Voici plus de 25 ans que je fais de l'aquarelle avec la marque "classique" de Winsor et Newton (qui reste d'une bonne qualité). Mais j'ai décidé de changer pour une gamme supérieure et franchement, après avoir vu quelques podcasts sur cette marque, je confirme qu'elle est EXCELLENTE ! Très supérieure en pigment, elle est plus "brillante" et très agréable à mélanger. D'ailleurs elle prend bien mieux les autres couleurs sans faire "boueux". Je suis enchantée de cet achat !

No me gustó que la caja de las acuarelas no llevara ningún adhesivo que mantuviera cerrada, con el peso de la caja de acuarelas se salían. Las acuarelas, tras hacer la carta de color, me han enamorado. Los colores son preciosos y brillantes. Intensos. Tal vez es excesivo para una principiante pero quería invertir para que me duren mucho tiempo y con buena calidad. Las recomiendo.
