First Grade Math with Confidence Bundle: Instructor Guide & Student Workbook

My first grader could not do basic additions without counting on fingers. She had lost interest in doing Math. I was kinda worried. Once she started using this book, she is in love with Math. She is well motivated. She does 3 chapters in one seating. She is almost about to finish the book. The exercises are fun for kids. I am planning to buy 2nd grade book now.

I'm a former teacher and I LOVE this curriculum. More importantly, so do my kids, both of whom struggle with attention and learning challenges. We're using it over the summer as a review for my son who's going into 2nd grade and as practice for my daughter who will be entering first grade. We're only two weeks in so I will try to remember to report back on our experience at the end of summer. Here's my impression so far:First, the warm ups often incorporate physical activity, which is great for my hyperactive daughter, and the spiral review really helps my son build his confidence. He used to immediately shut down when we'd start math, but he's eager to participate in these lessons. There's a great balance between review, direct instruction, and practice, and the lessons move quickly.Lessons have averaged 15 minutes. The games and activities are fun and engaging and don't require a lot of prep or materials. They are also easy to use at any point throughout the day. We've done "guess the number" at breakfast, comparing cookies at snack time, and War anytime my kids ask (which is often). The scripted guide makes lessons very easy to implement.There's a very popular review that slams this curriculum for being "Common Core" - which is silly. It does focus on building number sense and includes modeling numbers and applying flexible strategies but it is nothing like the core-aligned Eureka/engageNY math, which is AWFUL and the source of a great deal of my son's anxiety and aversion to math.This is a very kid- and teacher-friendly curriculum that makes math accessible and fun. Can see how the pace might be too slow or gentle for some learners but it's perfect for my kiddos. Very happy with this purchase so far.

As a former public school teacher who only taught language arts, teaching my kids math throughly was a bit of a fear for me! At 35 years old I still used my fingers to do my nine addition facts because I’d never been taught any other way.This year my kids and I used Math with Confidence 1st grade. For kindergarten we used TGTB and it bounced around everywhere with no logical flow and frustrated me so much (the kids liked it okay). I’m so glad we discovered MWC!The thing I love most is that it throughly teaches children mental math and hones the ability to solve math facts fluently. We will be using this curriculum for the foreseeable future! I’ve seen so much growth in my kids this year (and Kate’s methods taught ME to instantly know all of my math facts after a lifetime of counting lol). Thank you so much for the wonderful curricula! I have a first grader and kindergarteners but since we did the K TGTB when they were four, we all jumped in and did level 1 MWC together. My 5 (turned 6 year olds) kept up wonderfully and we were able to do math as a family and do the games together, sometimes paired up and sometimes taking turns doing the games with me. The kids loved it and got a lot of extra practice since three kids were doing the games three different times. Highly recommend for multiple kids and larger families who have close children in age.

I had to unexpectedly homeschool my daughter for first grade this year. We originally started with Singapore math because that is what she was doing at school. She hated math and I hated teaching Singapore. I love math so it was devastating for me that she was hating it so much.I stuck with Singapore until right before Christmas and then I couldn’t take it any longer. We started MWC right after Christmas and it has been life changing for both of us. My daughter doesn’t hate math any more and we are having so much fun with the games. Thank you Kate for such a wonderful curriculum!!

We have been using Math With Confidence for just two weeks. We’ve been doing first grade and third grade and both are fantastic. The games are so engaging and really concrete the concepts. My son was jumping and yelling with excitement during his game today and my daughter who was struggling with the fast paced delivery of math concepts in public school is actually enjoying math and gaining so much confidence in just the short time we’ve been using this curriculum. 100% recommend this curriculum, the lessons are fantastic and so well arranged and easy to use!

I don’t write Amazon reviews like EVER but I just had to share that this curriculum not only has been wonderful for my daughter but it’s quite literally helped me visualize math better too at 27 years old! The lessons are short and engaging and quite literally open and go. Minimal to no prep needed.

Thank you Kate Snow for pouring your time and expertise into this series of books! As far as our family is concerned, you have achieved your stated goal of building confidence in both student AND teacher! :) Before switching to MWC, I was using another curriculum which was designed for classroom use. I had to adapt all of the activities for a single student. The pacing was way too fast for my daughter and I had no idea how to slow things down for her. I am SO glad I stumbled upon one of your recorded live stream teaching sessions on the Well Trained Mind website! It was eye opening, and that is how I discovered your method and curriculum. Yours is a product which truly feels like it was written BY a homeschool mom FOR homeschool moms. It just makes so much sense. My daughter loves the games and hands-on activities. In fact, that is the main thing which keeps her coming back. No abstract illustrations. Real life, concrete applications in every lesson. Fun! Engaging! Our relationship has improved so much because we are no longer fighting about math time! Seriously. Thank you!

As a homeschool mom who hated math in school I can honestly say this program is fantastic both for the kids and the teacher! I love how easy it is to teach/prep (so few supplies needed to purchase as it uses mostly household items) but even more I love how well it's laid out and how it just makes sense to my kids. The lessons are fun and engaging, the bookwork is interesting and a good length (not too long or too much writing), and the kids enjoy it. 10 out of 10! It will be interesting to see how well we like it at higher levels but so far the lessons build beautifully on previous concepts and it just flows really well.

I have been so impressed with this curriculum. I did “kindergarten math with confidence” (which is equivalent to a prep curriculum in Australia) and it made math fun and enjoyable for my little boy. It’s a turn and go curriculum and provides a script for me everyday to teach him. Lessons take about 20 minutes. The workbook is colourful and engaging and he never complains about doing his worksheets! I also love all the games it includes to help enforce a maths concept! So happy we found this curriculum!

First Grade Math With Confidence is the best new math program on the homeschool market. It is a delightful, playful, rigorous and conceptually strong math program that thoroughly meets and exceeds first grade standards. The curriculum is well-designed, easy to implement, and requires a much smaller investment than many of the other conceptual math programs on the homeschool market. I would describe MWC as being in the same vein as RightStart Math, but with a much lower cost. My daughter loves the games and activities in the program and I have been so impressed with how much she has learned. She has phenomenal number sense and she is rapidly mastering her math facts! Highly recommend!

This curriculum has fun and engaging lessons. However the workbook is extremely easy. My daughter who excels in math needed something much more challenging. I'd recommend this curriculum to a student who has learning difficulties or struggles with math.

I recieved this in shrink wrap packaging which states "cannot be returned if opened" and did not open it up untill now, 3 months after ordering. Upon opening the teacher guide the book nearly fell apart on me! 2/3 of the spine has no glue to hold the book together! I am trying to figure out how to get a replacement since it's out of the return window. I contacted the press directly but no response. I want to give a 5 star review because I love the math with confidence program, but right now it's a 1 untill I can get the matter resolved.
