Much more than a diet
PARK AVENUE DIET is much more than a diet. It's a way of life, complete with advice on eating, fitness, personal growth, how you look, how you relate to others, and more. I bought this book and went out and got my hair cut! Just the right thing. Sensible advice, from a panel of experts it would be hard to assemble, never mind hear all at once, offering this valuable plan. Here is a CREATIVE as well a holistic, approach to self-improvement. I say this as editor of EVERYDAY CREATIVITY AND NEW VIEWS OF HUMAN NATURE (2007), to which one of this book's illustrious authors contributed! That's what sent me this way. And how glad I am.Ruth Richards, M.D., Ph.D.

Not ideal
I tried this diet for approximately one month and felt like I was starving. Don't get me wrong, I definitely saw results but the Park Avenue diet, but this eating lifestyle isn't realistic. Although I'm nowhere near overweight I was looking for advice on losing a few extra pounds and adopting a healthier lifestyle. Realistically this is not a diet that the average working class American can maintain if you are on a budget. Money wasn't an issue for me but the diet options were very restrictive in my opinion. This is a diet for someone who is highly disciplined eats like a bird, and has a lot of disposable income to eat the food selections recommended in the book. I'm learning that having a balanced diet, working out, and staying away from processed foods is the best way to lose and maintain a healthy weight. You don't need any fads or gimmicks to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise program and other advice is excellent.
This is basically the Atkins Diet, no to very little carbs, which I am unable to do, 1200 calories a day so you can adjust your calories with a different mix of food. Exercise program and other advice is excellent.

Very much on the surface, no real advice, just describing a status quo - but good recepies
This book is in the end pretty terrible. There is no real advice in there. EXCEPT... the recipes... they are actually pretty creative and delicious. So ok, that's good. The Fashion and hair advice are almost laughable. They merely describe an idealistic status quo but there is no practical advice on how to get there. Like..." pick a hair color that fits your personality... but never go three shades darker or lighter than your natural hair..." what on earth does that mean now... and, I quote... "red hair says 'Look At Me'." Huh!?!!? So what does blond hair say? The book won't tell me. It's just completely useless because it doesn't help you DETERMINE which direction YOU are supposed to go. Same when it comes to your skin... the tips go as far is saying ..."determine if you have oily skin, or dry skin". Well, yeah of course. And then, some of the psychological or personality advice is interesting but without a therapist to get you to dig into it, this book not even scratches the surface. We all know we should be kind and inclusive already, we learn in in pre-school.I was hoping to find some good advice to brush up my work appearance with this book, since the named crowd is my clientele. Sorry people... but very disappointing.

Just another diet book
This book is an easy read. It's nice that it's set up with several experts taking turns on giving information and taking the reader through positive steps toward weight loss and improving several areas in life. However, it is another one of those diet books that if you like following the menus supplied, you have to hunt for the ingredients. Some of the ingredients are expensive making it more challenging for the person who has to stick to a budget. All in all, the book is ok.

Its a good read
I liked this book however I found that most of the book is common sense and actual portion about eating correctly requires a lot of time to plan in my opinion. I know other people who loved the book. Tinsley Mortimer's section was probably the best advise. This is more of a self help book than a diet book but it is worth the read.

Maybe it will help someone? Not me...
The advice in this book is no secret and provides a lot of common sense. Because the ideas are valid, but nothing new nor mind blowing, I gave it three stars. Exercise, eat right, believe in yourself and don't leave your house looking sloppy.

Don't expect anything revolutionary and you'll be pleased. Spoiler alert
I purchased the book with high hopes, only to find another generic "diet" book. Don't expect anything revolutionary and you'll be pleased. Spoiler alert: eat fresh and exercise regularly.
