    Complex recipes, dubious nutritional advice

The celebrity author (who I would guess has never been overweight, much less obese) follows a largely low-carb diet, but her reasons for doing so are muddled. The idea of "food combining" is an old one, and has been fairly well debunked ("The human body evolved on a diet of whole foods, which almost always contain some combination of carbs, protein and fat."--healthline.com). Milk, according to her reasoning, ought to be a perfectly acceptable and "natural" food but she claims that it "is said to be" bad for you, "and I never use it," preferring strangely the much more highly processed almond or coconut milks. On the other hand, yogurt is okay (because fermented and your microbiome loves it). Several other inconsistencies in reasoning--fish is so good for you because it is so much better to be by the sea--and recipes that would be both expensive and highly time-consuming to make result in a much less than practical guide for eating better foods and consuming less sugar and refined starches.

I love the cookbooks by Pascale Naessens. They are beautiful and the food is actually interesting. As you would suspect, she has access to some items we in the US do not have in the local grocery, but that is to be expected. I hope there are more cookbooks available to the US market in the future.

This is a book with many beautiful photos, interesting recipes, and a simple and relaxed approach to food combining.  I gave four stars instead of five since I would have liked to have seen a few less fish recipes and a few more fowl recipes.
