History of Art: A survey of the major visual arts from the dawn of history to the present day

This book is a great overview of art history. I used it back in college for an art history class, and I was hoping to find the same edition I had back then. This is it! I'm very happy with my purchase.

This compendium of all the world's art from ancient days through its mid-1970's publication date is a treasure! Considering the thousands of years it covers, missing the last two or three decades in more recent editions is insignificant. The book was rated "Very Good" and I would even call it "Excellent." It has no flaws at all -- except for not having a dust cover (but who needs that to get in the way anyway?) The text is masterful, like taking a college course in Art History, but brought to life by the expertise of the original author, HW Janson. The illustrations, while many are in Black n' White, are very clear and large; the color illustrations make you feel as if you are in the museum. All in all, a wonderul resource to read and study, or just peruse from chapter to chapter for pure pleasure. If you cannot visit the Metropolitan in NYC or Europe, this is next best thing!

I was looking to replace a copy I had I had in college - this is a later version.

I ordered the book entitled, "The History of Art". What I received was not the book but an "instructor's manual" for the book!
