This rack came super well-packed - it took a bit of time to get everything out of the box and unwrapped, but the insurance that the products were in good shape trumps the frustration in opening it. The instructions are completely pictographic but very easy to follow. Took me 30 mins to put everything together on the floor before transferring it to my wall. Make sure that you use the correct rod sizes for the vertical and horizontal setup; there is only about an inch difference in length. Contrary to many reviews, I received hooks and screws to attach my shelves to the horizontal bars with no issues. Also to the contrary, there are many ways to set up this rack. You can mix and match where you would like the shelves to be, where you would like the hanging rack to be and what direction you would like the hanging rack to face. PLEASE NOTE: Once you install the shelving, you will have to remove the ENTIRE unit and take it apart piece by piece if you want to change anything - you will also have to rip the screws and Hillmans completely out of wall, which will leave holes that are not reusable; this is a terrible and torturous experience. I had to go through that and now I have to plaster and repaint the holes left behind. Know exactly how you want it before you put it together and then put the entire contraption together on the floor MINUS the shelves. Once the horizontal bars are on, you can use them as leverage to more easily tighten each screw joint. Once it's more sturdy, place the rack up against the wall and align it as perfectly as you can. It should sit sturdy enough for you to start the more tedious part. If you don't have a drill (I didn't), you can hammer the screws into the wall, pull them out with pliers, and then hammer the Hillman bit into the premade hole. You will need to hammer the Hillmans in as straight as possible or else you'll get a lot of the plastic bulging all around. Start with one of the horizontal bars second from the top. Make sure that the entire pipe is aligned near perfectly to how you want it; it is important that all the vertical AND horizontal bars be aligned perfectly or you will have a difficult time. Proceed to hammer in the screw thru one of the holes, wiggle the setting against the wall a little to loosen it, and then remove it with the pliers. Line up the holes again and carefully hammer in the Hillman straight and COMPLETELY in the hole; it should be flush with the surface of the metal. Now, drive the screw down flush as well. Do this with only one hole. Now, do the same thing on the opposite side. At this point, you have a sturdy build that you can either finish immediately or complete later, but DO NOT USE it until you stabilize it. After testing by hanging my own body weight (135lbs), the minimum stabilization necessary is two screws in the two horizontal bars at the very top (where most of the weight bares) and a least one screw in each of the other 6/8. Of course, this is only if you are trying to avoid a million holes in the wall; if not, I suggest completely it fully. Once you've done what you'd like with the stabilization, attach the shelves to the horizontal bars, but be mindful not to screw the screw in completely flush. If you measure it against the side of the wooden planks, you'll see the screws are about equal in height which means they could poke through if you screw them in too deeply. Aesthetic tips: I suggest positioning the hanging bar to face the wall, as there is enough space and it makes it look neater. Additionally, if you have high baseboards as I do, you can either leave the horizontal bars off of the bottom row with the T still installed OR choose to leave out the smallest vertical piece and its corresponding T. Finally, you can also choose to install the top shelf in its original place or on the very top of the rack.

I had this in my cart for months going back and forth reading reviews, I finally purchased. Came literally the next day. Told my husband what other reviewers were saying about the product install. He didn’t have a problem with the instructions nor putting it together. The only thing he said was you can’t get it super tight but regardless it’s super sturdy and looks great. Would purchase again

This exceeded my expectations for quality and sturdiness. Starting from the packing, everything was so snuggly packed and taped that there was no way it could shift and get scratched. I will say with assembly you have to play around with the fittings until you find the piece of pipe that will turn to the tightest position and be in the right facing position. Installation to the wall is fairly easy as long as you know how to use a screw gun. We made sure to put this into the studs of the wall so that we have no worries of it coming loose. The over all look is very industrial. It looks like the piping is powder coated and not painted making it less likely to scratch. The shelves are solid wood and rustic finished. I can’t say enough how much I am pleased with this unit. It was a nice finishing touch to our teenage boys room.
