Works great in our reservoir and I would think they would work the same in rivers.

Is the design on both sides ?

Yes, design on both sides and they are fish catchers. I replaced the cheap treble hooks with quality single 2/0 size hook on a 200# assist cord setup. If jigging like I do in deep water 60-100+ feet, these are killer jigs rigged as described for inshore drop-off's. Hope this helped.
