These candles are intended for a NYC roof top so will covering them while not in use keep them from melting and protect them from the environment?

No I do not believe that they could withstand the heat. These candles are extremely realistic. They are beautiful and the colors are rich. They would easily melt on a rooftop in NYC in the heat of summer.

How to make the wick move? Mine does not move

The wicks do not move on these candles. But if u click on candle option on remote they flicker just like a candle.

Most candles worked. Sadly the biggest one did not. Not as substantial as I had hoped and still a little artificial looking, but all in all OK.
