The value for the money will be in the test of time
I had my last Honda lawnmower since 2005 when I purchased my home. It survived all the years with starts on the first pull, and it still starts that way today. I was sad when I saw the announcement that Honda would no longer be making small engine mowers after this year. That news made me order the new one as a treat that will hopefully last the rest of my mowing life. I'll consider my new one a collectors edition and don't my old HRX to a friend. If you're in the market for a new lawn mower, look no further than the Honda HRX217HZA GCV200 Versamow System 4-in-1 21 in. This mower is fantastic
This mower arrived the day after I placed the order. Unboxing and minor assembly was quick. Used the Honda motor oil for the first 45 minutes - it turned black. Drained the oil and began using Amsoil 10w30. This unit starts and runs great each time. My prior Honda HRX from 2008 continues to run great. I wanted to make this purchase after Honda no longer manufactures the gas mowers for sale in the USA.

DO NOT BUY THIS MOWER
So as of today, 8-1-23, the repair shop has had my mower longer than I have owned it. It's been over 5 weeks now, & they haven't even looked at it yet, even though they know what the issue is, & they have the parts to fix it.So as per Honda's instruction, I changed the oil after the first 5 hours of use. Honda even has an instructional video showing you how to change the oil, it's very easy to do. I changed the oil, set it back upright, & went inside for about 15 minutes to cool off & get a drink. Came back out, & not only would it not start, t wouldn't even turn over. I let it sit for another hour or so, & tried again. It still wouldn't start. I waited a day, no start. I waited 2 days, no start. So I called the local "Honda Authorized" shop, told them my problem, the guy on the phone says, "oh yeah, thanks a KNOWN ISSUE with these mowers, it's the camshaft that needs to be replaced". I felt good about them knowing that this was a known issue, & they had the parts to fix it.Honda should be recalling these mowers & fixing them before selling them. While I do blame the repair shop for the length of the repair, I blame Honda for selling them in the first place.Because I waited 3 days too long, Amazon wouldn't accept the return, so now I'm at the mercy of the repair shop, & who knows when I'll get my machine. This is a $1200 lawnmower, I went all in for the biggest Honda, thinking that this would be the last one I ever buy. Honda is going out of business in the lawnmower business, so I guess they just threw these together & who cares if it works or not..Very disappointed. I could have spent less than half & got a commercial Toro, or anything else, & would still be going.Moral of the story, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ADDRESSED THE CAMSHAFT ISSUE WITH WHOMEVER YOU BUY THIS FROM BEFORE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY !

LOVE THIS MOWER!!
I had the non-electric start for 11 years prior to buying *this* one. The other one did not fail, I just wanted to get this one before Honda exits the market. Yes, they are leaving the consumer lawnmower market for some reason. So, I have 2 mowers and I will probably sell the other one, but that's fine. The material the deck is made of is VERY strong and durable, doesn't rust, and doesn't damage easily at all. Honda engines are used in these, so you can count on the reliability and power each time you use the mower. The mower doesn't bog down unless you're just silly trying to cut high grass TOO FAST with it. The automatic transmission and clutches are smooth and make it easy to take care of your yard mowing chores. If I get a HUGE property I will probably be forced to get a riding mower at that point, but for any application that calls for a walk behind mower, you can NOT beat this one. You will not regret this purchase, I assure you.
