Educational and Delicious
I got this for my 9 yr old daughter after one of her classmates did his weekly classroom presentation on a dish that he and his mom made from it. I figured, if it impressed a 9 yr old boy enough to do a presentation on it, the recipes must at least be somewhat good! My daughter is a big fan of "The Secret Garden" and loves to cook so this was a no-brainer gift for her. What surprised me about it though, is it's also a history/culture book. We knew pretty much nothing about English or Indian cuisine or culture of the Victorian era before getting this cookbook (outside of what is presented in "The Secret Garden" book, of course). There are really simple things in it like how to make the "proper pot of tea" (which I had never done without a microwave, sadly). There are also more complex things like cornish pasties and mulligatawny soup. It has classics like scones and raspberry jam. It has weird things I'd never heard of like gingerbread parkin, bacon and cilantro pancakes and welsh rabbit (which isn't rabbit at all)! This is a very interesting, delicious little gem!

Great recipes.
It's a super well written recipe book but plus a little extra. It has great recipes in it that I have personally tried out myself, they're simple and historically accurate as far as I can tell. It's a favorite of mine.
