I want to get all the paint off ,then stain. Is this gun safe for indoor use?** A: Hey Susieq It's not the heat gun that you need to be concerned about, IT’S THE PAINT!!! Until 1978 lead base paint was manufactured. Get lead paint testers to see what you are working with. These paints are a health hazard when they give off vapors. Look online to find out the hazards about lead base paints. The EPA has guide lines for contractors to follow that vary from state to state in the USA. Like respirators and white suits along with using drop clothes to contain that type of paint. Different paints will soften at different temperatures. I find around 700 degrees may be a good starting point. If you go too high with the heat you'll burn the wood. To low and the paint won't soften. That's basically it in a nut shell. Kevin M **Q: is it good for making cosplays and heating foam?** A: If you're talking about EVA foam: yes. Just make sure you don't set it too hot. EVA foam begins to melt at around 165 fahrenheit, so set the gun to 200 and wear a respirator. DO NOT WEAR A DUST MASK! If it doesn't have replaceable filters, it's a dust mask, which is for keeping dust and other large particles out of your airway and making smelly jobs more comfortable. It DOES NOT protect against the toxic vapors that will be released when you get EVA foam hot enough to shape or seal it. Set the gun to 200F (assuming you're working with EVA foam), work OUTDOORS and wear a respirator (not a painter's mask/dust mask!). Great heat settings, simple and easy to use! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far so good *by H***X on January 29, 2021* I use a heat gun as part of my job on a daily basis. When I use them, it's up at full power, and switching it on for 4 seconds, then off for a minute, the back on for 4 seconds, then back off for another minute, over and over all day long. A friend of mine has one of these and loves it. It's great being able to see the temperature on the back of the unit. It adjusts in 50 degree increments. It's light and works well. I've only had it for a month though. There are a few things I would like though. 1. Why 50 degree increments? Why not just put in a switch that allows you to just roll the temperature up and back down as you like and just have the LCD report what temperature it is. 2,. Battery power - Dewalt has a wonderful set of battery powered tools. I have a lot of them that I use. They have a high/low power heat gun in battery format, but not this one. Why? What could possibly be so different that you couldn't just swap out the power cord for the battery circuit and base. The power cord is a danger with these. I can't tell the number of times, I have sat down a unit only to have the power cord twist and pull the unit back or over and burn things that shouldn't get burned, including my arm. With a battery, that's not a problem. You still have to be careful how you set it down and where, but at least you don't have a power cord pulling against you.
