Review: Well built heat gun with a ton of different uses! - I've been waiting for this heat gun to go on sale. Finally, when desertcart ran a lightning deal on it during the holiday season, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy it. The Dewalt D26960K is the perfect heat gun for someone who wants a very reliable heat gun but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. It has a digital readout and comes with 12 different accessories. It feels extremely well built (as you would expect from any Dewalt tool). It also has a longer than usual cord which can possibly eliminate the need for an additional extension cord. Using the heat gun is extremely easy. All you do is simply plug it in, set the speed (low or high) and set the temperature you want. On low speed, you can set the temperature from 150-750 degrees fahrenheit. According to the manual, these temperatures are used for heating up your work piece slowly (heat shrinks, drying paint, possibly repairing electronics). On high speed, the temperature ranges from 150-1100 degrees fahrenheit. Again, according to the manual, these temperatures are used for heat up your work piece quickly (removing paint, loosening nuts & bolts, removing floor tiles). Obviously, having the option to set your temperature gives you more control during different applications. For example, if you're working on your phone, you may set the temperature lower on the low speed to avoid from frying anything out if you used the higher speed. When you're done using it, it balances very well on the built in kickstand. I've had this heat gun for a little over a month now and I absolutely love it. All of the attachments go on easily and stay there. Not once was I worried about them falling off. Just be careful not to touch them after use! The only negative I can think of is the wall scraper that comes with it. It's a little flimsy. If you're removing paint, you're better off going to a home improvement center and purchasing a better one in the drywall section. If you've been on the fence about buying it, just go ahead and do it. You won't be disappointed!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am stripping old paint on some old doors & frames inside . I want to get all the paint off ,then stain. Is this gun safe for indoor use?**
A: Hey Susieq
It's not the heat gun that you need to be concerned about, IT’S THE PAINT!!! Until 1978 lead base paint was manufactured. Get lead paint testers to see what you are working with. These paints are a health hazard when they give off vapors. Look online to find out the hazards about lead base paints. The EPA has guide lines for contractors to follow that vary from state to state in the USA. Like respirators and white suits along with using drop clothes to contain that type of paint. Different paints will soften at different temperatures. I find around 700 degrees may be a good starting point. If you go too high with the heat you'll burn the wood. To low and the paint won't soften. That's basically it in a nut shell.

**Q: is it good for making cosplays and heating foam?**
A: If you're talking about EVA foam: yes. Just make sure you don't set it too hot. EVA foam begins to melt at around 165 fahrenheit, so set the gun to 200 and wear a respirator.

DO NOT WEAR A DUST MASK! If it doesn't have replaceable filters, it's a dust mask, which is for keeping dust and other large particles out of your airway and making smelly jobs more comfortable. It DOES NOT protect against the toxic vapors that will be released when you get EVA foam hot enough to shape or seal it.

Set the gun to 200F (assuming you're working with EVA foam), work OUTDOORS and wear a respirator (not a painter's mask/dust mask!). Hotter might be okay but since the gun only goes in increments of 50, you might not want to go above 200. Try it with a scrap piece and see how it goes.

**Q: Does anyone know if it can be used to soften pex for easier bending?**
A: Dan, I thought this would be a good heat gun, I was going to use it to pull out dented plastic bumpers, but I was not impressed with the amount of heat it generated. I think my hair blow dryer puts out more heat and I do not know if this is normal or the one I got was defective. By the time I got to use it I was not able to return it so I'm stuck with it. Hopefully someone else tells you that it produces enough heat to so what you want it to do, but my answer would be no, or you will be holding it a long time to get it hot enough. Hope this helps you, and hopefully someone else tells you otherwise. If you get it try it right a way so you can return it if you are not happy with it.

**Q: Can this gun stand on it's own with the nozzle facing up?**
A: This unit features an innovative kickstand for great stability

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for heating almost anything.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far so good
*by H***X on January 29, 2021*

I use a heat gun as part of my job on a daily basis. When I use them, it's up at full power, and switching it on for 4 seconds, then off for a minute, the back on for 4 seconds, then back off for another minute, over and over all day long. A friend of mine has one of these and loves it. It's great being able to see the temperature on the back of the unit. It adjusts in 50 degree increments. It's light and works well. I've only had it for a month though. There are a few things I would like though. 1. Why 50 degree increments? Why not just put in a switch that allows you to just roll the temperature up and back down as you like and just have the LCD report what temperature it is. 2,. Battery power - Dewalt has a wonderful set of battery powered tools. I have a lot of them that I use. They have a high/low power heat gun in battery format, but not this one. Why? What could possibly be so different that you couldn't just swap out the power cord for the battery circuit and base. The power cord is a danger with these. I can't tell the number of times, I have sat down a unit only to have the power cord twist and pull the unit back or over and burn things that shouldn't get burned, including my arm. With a battery, that's not a problem. You still have to be careful how you set it down and where, but at least you don't have a power cord pulling against you. Again, I like this unit, but I would LOVE a battery powered Dewalt LCD gun.
