If no removable disk show up,that means the connection is fail. I would advice you can reboot the recorder and your computer. Also you can try another USB cable and the USB interface of your computer.

What should I do if the recorder unfortunately freezes?

Maybe you can have a try to reset the device(won't delete any files),just make all settings back to default You have to use a needle to poke the hole of reset(The small hole near the MENU button).

What should I do if I forget the power-on password?

You have to get contact with the seller,and the seller will check if you are the owner.Then he will tell you how to reset the password.
