Does the diverter valve perform well as a volume control? Looks to be be more on-off.

This diverter valve has two functions. The top valve controlls which shower function is in use - in my case it's the rain shower or the hand held shower. The bottom one controlls the water temp only (there is a safty button to prevent scalding on the bottom valve as well). It does not controll the volume. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

Does this allow both hand shower and overhead shower to Be on at the same time? If not which one does?

It allows all combination: just overhead, just hand, or both. Be sure to have pipes leading to the shower to be at least 3/4 inch (1/2 would not take full advantage of what this shower heads can do). I had the shower for over a year - extremely happy.

Can I use the Hansgrohe 31494001 metris tub spout with this or does the tub spout need a diverter knob? Can a Hansgrohe handheld shower be included?

With the combo volumen control/diverter, is it possible to say, leave the tub spout dripping so pipes don't freeze in the winter?
