A great value reel. Does the job. Clutch is nice and smooth when playing larger fish. I did get alot of wind knots in the braided line futher back on the spool when using lighter lures (below 1g).

A silky smooth reel i purchased the 1000 size for bfs fishing casts sub one gram lures with ease and for the price you simply cant go wrong the only negative is theirs no reverse as is the modern trend as an older angler (65) it takes some getting used to

Really pleased with this viper x reel. Set up was very easy and the product has a great quality feel to it. No issues during the first few trips with it and looking forward to lots more to come

I picked up the 3000 model mainly for lure fishing, I really should of gone with a 4000 model but nearly a £20 difference in price, the bigger spool on the 4000 would if been the best option for me personally. The Reel does everything I ask of it, it's smooth with a nice even line lay, fast retrieve too, Still early days yet to give it a full review, Little disappointed in the small amount of sideways play on the spool, Shame the tolerances wasn't a bit tighter, then again for the price what can I say! It's a bargain.

Im usually a mitchell user but wanting a 1000 size reel for dropshotting mitchell didn't really have anything in their range so after lots of searching I found this little viper x . I must say it's a superbly made reel thats nearly in par quality wise to Mitchell's pro series but for seriously less money . The 1000 size is perfect for light jig fishing and finesse work and I'm sure there's no better reel out there for less than twice it's price . I can't comment on longevity but there's utterly no reason to doubt it won't last for years going on the feel out the box etc. So all in all I'd highly recommend the viper x if your on the market for a serious dropshotting finesse reel but don't want to go down the baitcaster route .

This is a preliminary review of these reels. I have recently bought three of them, one 500 and two 1000 models. I took them fishing once so far but didn’t catch any fish. However I can say that they are very smooth while using them. I’m directly comparing them to my Daiwa Fuego LT and Exceler LT reels and they are just as smooth and solid feeling as those more expensive reels, but for less than half the cost. What’s more, the Viper X also has a sealed, carbon drag whereas the Daiwas do not. These Viper X reels are well built, and the fit and finish on them is well done also. The cosmetics of the reels are good to go along with the quality, they have just the right amount of flashiness without being overdone or being too plain. Then there’s other little things like the knurled spool for braid, or just the line keeper clip on the spool for storing the tag end of the line when removing the spool, instead of that being triangular like others it is round which makes it far easier to get it to catch and hold the line. That’s not a big thing but it is still a nice touch. Even the EVA foam grip, all of these things add up to make these reels feel like you really have something that’s a cut above others in this same price range, and even above others costing more. Further, these reels are among the lightest in their size range, the 500 weighing 5.4oz and the 1000 weighing 6.0oz. They feel light as a feather. I have three of these reels and they are loaded with 2 pound, 4 pound, and 6 pound mono lines. All cast and retrieve smoothly with good line management. Time will tell how they perform with a fish on the line, but for now I’m very satisfied with them and WILL be buying more for replacements of other reels as well as for pairing up with new rods.
