Physician with IBS-D here. My experience with this product has been very good. The next day after taking it for the first time I had my first normal BM in many, many months. I've found Heather's Tummy Tamers to work well also but these seem to have a better enteric coating on them. If taken on an empty stomach and with not too much water, I get no minty reflux at all. The price is more than Heather's, but I'll pay more to avoid the reflux. For those wondering about it, the reflux is because peppermint oil is a smooth muscle relaxant. That's how it works in the gut -- the gut wall is smooth muscle, and in IBS it is contracting too much or too forcefully or not in a patterned way. However, the gastroesophageal sphincter is also smooth muscle, and that is what prevents reflux. Relax it with peppermint and you get reflux. Enteric coatings work by not dissolving in an acidic environment -- like your stomach. However, if you dilute your stomach acid with food or beverage while the peppermint capsule is in there, then the coating will dissolve and you will get the reflux. Hence, take your enteric coated peppermint, whether this product or heather's, 30 minutes to an hour before eating, using enough water be sure you got it down and no more. The "number needed to treat" for peppermint oil for IBS is very low -- around 2.5. That means for every 5 people treated with peppermint oil, 2 will experience benefit. That may sound like a not-so-good number, but actually in pharmacology that is a very good NNT. For comparison, the NNT for prescription antispasmodics like Bentyl and Levsin is in the 3-7 range, which is also quite good, but compare those numbers to something like Xifaxan which has an NNT of 11 and costs $900-1,800 per month and you begin to appreciate that peppermint oil is winner. And with a low cost and low side effect profile, it's almost impossible to beat from a cost/side effect/NNT combined perspective. Give peppermint oil a try. Try Heather's first if you don't have any problems with reflux as Heather's is much cheaper. IBS is multifactorial. If peppermint oil doesn't help you, then gut hypermotility or dismotility is not your problem and you will need to try something else -- FODMAP diet, prebiotics, probiotics, and EXERCISE (that one is for everyone no matter what, of course). If it helps a little, you will need something else in addition to it. And for some lucky folks, this is all you will need.

This is really done wonders more than anything for my IBS-C. The tummy cramps are completely gone, and I have gone to the bathroom every day since taking them. I have Acid reflux and take a daily PPI so not going to lie this was tricky to find the sweet spot. I cannot take on an empty tummy, no way and wait 30 mins or more. I get burning and it is not comfortable. So, I had to modify and tried all ways to do it because the CALM I get all day and night from this is beyond and it exactly makes me feel normal. It is on the box you can take with food, may not work as well or it may not matter and in my case, it is perfect, I get all the same pain free benefits, it is so peaceful in my tummy I often are shocked how much. I take 1 pill with my breakfast and my 2nd pill with my lunch. I get maybe a bit of burning only sometimes but it goes quick and sometimes nothing at all. I am eating foods I could not eat before, I would often eat something and feel bleh and that has gone and I have good gas from the fuller range of fiber foods I can now eat, even some beans, the kind that tells you your body is digesting correctly and normal and ZERO PAIN. Life safer and probably will not ever stop taking it. It has been a month. I feel wonderful and my mental mood is changed for the better. I am afraid I may gain some weight as I am hungry and eating has become a pleasure. AMAZING!! That is my experience on IBgard.

My gi dr. told me about these and they have been a game changer for me. They work for bloating and many other symptoms and can be taken daily. I find them easy to take and if you forget to take it before a meal you can take it during unlike some of the other gut supplements.

Recommended by my gastro doc for it works well but only for a couple hours. Unfortunately they are expensive and I may have to take a dose twice a day. So that's why they only get 4 stars.

I don’t usually write a review on anything I buy, but this product was recommended to me by my doctor when I was in such physical pain I was doubled over. I’m not even sure what I ate or what I did that gave me intestinal stomach pain, but it was bad. When I saw that it was peppermint I thought this wouldn’t work but boy was I wrong. It’s fantastic. I now keep it on hand when I know that I’m gonna start having a flareup or if I cheat and eat something, I’m not supposed to it always seems to help. I just wanted to let people know who might be experiencing the kind of pain I was going through that there is help.

I've gotten a couple packs of these, but the price is just too expensive to continue buying them. 48 Capsules come in a pack, but you are supposed to take two at a time. Meaning, a whole pack won't last a full month. Now, the product itself worked for me. While not diagnosed with anything, I've always had digestive issues and wanted to give these capsules a try. They did seem to help. So if you can handle the expensive price, I'd recommend them I suppose.

IBgard has really helped reduce my bloating and stomach cramps. I take it before meals and notice less discomfort afterward. It’s easy to use and gentle on the stomach. It doesn’t fix everything, but it definitely makes my IBS symptoms more manageable. I would recommend it if you deal with digestive issues
