Made my Synology Rackstation NAS bearable; cool, quiet, and easy to install
I have recently decided to annoy my girlfriend to death by purchasing a rack cabinet for my condo office and filling it with totally unnecessary hardware like Ubiquiti switches and raspberry pis. My mistake though, was underestimating how loud a Synology rack-mount (rs1221+) NAS can be. It annoyed me 24/7 as it was in my office. I saw a reddit post recommending the Noctua fans and ordered some. So far, this is AMAZING. My NAS is significantly quieter and my office is once again bearable to be in. Decibel and Temp Measurements before and after - I was very careful to ensure no ambient noise affected the test: Stock Fans: - Fan Noise: 52dB (quiet mode) - CPU Temp: 37º C - HDD Temp: 25º C Noctua Fans: [quiet mode] - Fan Noise: 35dB - CPU Temp: 48º C - HDD Temp: 29º C [Full Speed Mode] - Fan Noise: 43dB - CPU Temp: 43º C - HDD Temp: 27º C RESULT: Noctua fans are significantly quieter than stock fans, even at full speed, they are significantly quieter than stock fans in quiet mode. Seriously, the dB readings don't do it justice, it's night and day difference in my office. HOWEVER, the drawback is clearly that they are just slightly less effective at cooling the CPU. For me, this is 100% fine, a few degrees difference keeps it within the safe operating range and the peace and quiet is amazing. Just giving you these details for full disclosure. Highly recommend these fans.

Absolutely phenomenal performance and super pleasing to the eye! The little fans that could...
In all honesty, I have hated even the idea of using 80mm fans in any computer build. Without fail they have been much louder than the 120mm, 140mm, 180mm and 200mm fans. And due to the loudness factor, I have abhorred even the thought of using 80mm fans. I have built more computers in the last quarter of a century than I can remember. Most of them were quality gaming computers and I excelled in building water cooled gaming rigs. Fast forward to today. I had to build a computer with very specific criteria. It had to be a mini-itx, had to look nice, had to be quiet and most of all, had to remain cool. These little Noctua NF-A8 PWM fans got the job done like 1,000 times better than I could have imagined. They even included anti-vibration pads with all sorts of different beautiful colors for color coordination purposes. Yeah, I had to pay a little bit more than crap fans, but these were totally worth it. My aversion to using 80mm fans is now over thanks to these little guys. Thank you Noctua for hitting the ball out of the park! Definitely a homerun.

Color and Quality
Exactly the quality you would expect from Noctua, but with better color options!

82mm noctua great for sff builds
Perfect fan for ssf cases. Just one is enough for my Lenovo case and pwm easy to plug in. The colored rubber noise canceling corners help and the fan is quiet already. High performance in a small package

Replacement fan for Ameritron ALS-600 power supply
This is a perfect swap for the noisy oem fan on an Ameritron ALS-600 power supply. Install is relatively simple with no cutting or modifying anything other than soldering the wires to the 12 volt section in the supply. Several videos online on how to do the whole swap, so I won't go into detail about it. This has quieted down the radio room quite a bit! That oem fan was pretty loud, this Noctua fan is extremely quiet yet puts out as much or more airflow as the oem fan. So far, 350 watts on FT8 for an hour and the power supply is running cool! FYI, I also replaced the fan on the amp itself with another Noctua fan, it works good too, but definitely not as quiet as this one, although it is quieter than that oem fan too. There was some modifications necessary to make that one work in the amp though. Overall, very happy with the results and I now have no background fan noise in my audio when talking on the radio!

4 pin Y adapters not included at this price point.
Noctua is a great brand with a superior product, but this model is essentially the black version of Noctua's typical premium fans that provides bumper customization at the cost of essential adapters that ship with the standard models. In other words, if you're expecting a Y cable adapter in the box, amongst others, you will be disappointed. For an additional $10, you can buy Y cables from Noctua, inflating the price point of a build for those of use who need a Y cable included and are not concerned about a color palette. I am returning this and will be avoiding the Chromax product line in future builds.
