Corn snakes do not need a very deep substrate to burrow in. I've had 2 adults ranging in length from 4-5 feet. They will happily burrow in bark substrate 2 to 4 inches deep. Pile it up towards the back of the tank, and maybe place a 4-inch wide plank of wood paneling or acrylic in front of the door to act as a higher barrier. You'll be fine. Something to note: if you use an under-tank heating source, make sure it's regulated or you risk burning the snake when it burrows. Use a thermostat set to 85 or so. **Q: am I able to use this with a heating pad instead of a lamp** A: I have a heating pad on the bottom and side, works great. **Q: I have recently ordered this product to house my male mouse. How water resistant is the material/should I seal it with another product?** A: Thank you for the question. The material itself is water resistant, and will not absorb moisture. The unit however is not watertight. If you need it to be watertight, you will need to seal it. **Q: For the heating pad, would it go on the outside bottom still? What would be a good size to heat through?** A: I recommend putting the heating pad on the outside and using a thermostat. If you **HAVE** to put it inside, place a heavy tile or slate rock that covers the ENTIRE heating pad with a thermostat. That was one of the main reasons I bought it. I put it together alone in about 20 minutes. I watched a YouTube video instead of reading the instructions. Much easier that way! 2. BIG! Super spacious, especially for my baby bearded dragon. 3. Seems to be very sturdy. 4. I love the color. 5. Real glass doors. 6. Lock for enclosure works well. Cons: 1. There are NO cut outs for wires. Everything has to go on top of the cage unless you rig it somehow. 2. The bottom of the front is not glass and is so deep I cannot see my dragon unless he’s up on something. 3. Again, since the front bottom piece is solid, my baby can’t see out. He kept climbing up trying to see out. I had to put a hide by the glass so he could climb up to see the world. 4. A lot of accessories you get need to suction to the enclosure. You cannot do that with this one. I’m using double sided tape to hold the suction cups to the enclosure. 5. Make sure when adding the handles on the glass doors, to put them over far enough. One of mine is too close to the edge of the glass making it really hard to grip and open. 6. There are gaps in the corners after it was put together that I had to seal with silicone for when I switch over to loose substrate. Overall I’m happy with it!
