Grounded: How connection with nature can improve our mental and physical wellbeing

Rich source of practical strategies to support wellbeing through a greater connection with nature
This book was recommended to me by a friend as a source of inspiration for practical activities to help the body find improved wellbeing through activities in nature. Ruth's style of writing brings this all to life with simplicity, clarity, inner wisdom, and a light touch of theory. The images in the book set the scene so beautifully as well. It is more than a self-help book - it is a feast of opportunity for being in nature. A book I now have many post-it notes in and can use to support my personal well-being and workshops with others.

A beautifully written and photographed companion for connection
I've read numerous books about (re)connecting with nature, many very good indeed, but Dr Ruth Allen's Grounded is the stand-out work. It is clearly written with love, compassion and clarity by someone with a deep understanding of the subject. I can be easily discouraged, I confess, by content that I find rather esoteric, but Grounded is accessible, engaging, intelligent and highly practical, encouraging both reflection and practice. I have returned to it many times and it has proven a constant source of comfort and stimulation as I instil and renew my connection to, and part in, nature.

A beautiful and important work
I read this book over a year ago and keep dipping into it as it sits on my shelf. Reading it feels like taking in a huge deep breathe of air, and feeling your body slow and loosen. The images are beautiful but the words are eloquently, intelligently and precisely thought yet space is left for personal interpretation. This book most certainly has encouraged me to reconnect with the landscape & earth beneath my feet and offered me news ways to encourage others to do the same.

Beautiful AND practical
This is such a beautifully written book, coupled with the most amazing photography. It offers helpful tips and exercises to help you with slowing down and grounding yourself. I love a book that allows you to “get involved” as you go, and one that gives the flexibility to read it how you’d like - cover to cover, or delving into what you need that day. I’ve been stuck indoors shielding for many months now; Ruth’s book has allowed me to imagine the outdoors and everything I’ll do in it again. The images allow me to escape my current 4-walled position and immerse myself in nature. My copy is already well thumbed, passages underlined and pages folded over. Getting quite battered, but much loved.

A helpful read
Sometimes you can think you know all the basic stuff but it’s beyond helpful to read it and have it in one place. It is as the title suggests, grounding. Just reading snippets here and there every now and then then putting into practice can really help you feel like you’re pressing a reset button. The visuals within it are also great. A lovely book, and since following the author on social media I also see see a wonderful person behind it too.

A soothing, but thought provoking book
I really enjoyed this book; it’s really beautifully written, so thoughtful, with lots of ways for us all to feel more connected and routed in nature. I liked the way the book was divided up and it’s very much something you can read as a whole or dip in and out. It’s very thought provoking and helps you question your own thoughts and relationship as being part of nature. The design and photography is also lovely, it would make a really great gift.

I Keep Coming Back to this Book
I love the pace of this book. To read it all in one sitting would be a mistake. You need to take it page by page and absorb all of the lessons one by one. I do keep coming back to the book because it has different lessons for different times of life! I love the weight and beauty of the book too. I don't mind a digital book, but this one needs to be held!

Comforting and inspiring
This book is beautifully written and presented. The author explores what it means to feel grounded and considers various appealing and accessible ways that we can become more so. It's the first time that I've ever actually done the exercises that are suggested in a book, and I did so enthusiastically! It is informed and research based, yet written in a personal and mindful way, so feels highly relatable and inclusive. Both soothing and uplifting, it would make a wonderful gift.
