Perfect replacement for my old 1997 Rialto 1-piece toilet fill valve
I was skeptical about this fill valve as it looked very different and cheap (plastic) compare to my original part (all metal) in the toilet. After doing much research online and lack of other alternatives, I have decided to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did that, this replacement is so easy to install and worked so much better than the original part. It took only 20 min to replace the part, most of the time was spent on emptying the water from the tank. The water height adjustment was extremely easy, just turn a screw at the top of the unit with a Philip screw driver to lower or raise the water level (the instruction did not mention that feature by the way). The unit does make a bit more noise than the original because it was made with plastic rather than metal. The original part made so little noise when filling which made you wonder if the water was actually going. This one you could hear it going but still a lot quieter than the other toilets that require a tube to fill. Now, here comes the good part, the new unit only took 35 sec to fill the tank whereas the original part took 1min 5 sec when it was new. At the end, the old unit took 2 mins to fill even after I tried flushing it. Some reviews mentioned about drilling a hole for the tube connection. I am not sure this part was meant for toilet requiring a fill tube. The drilling was not needed in my case, because my toilet never used a fill tube to begin with. That's why it was so quiet. The water was supposed to come out at the BOTTOM of the unit directly into the water tank to lesson the noise. This unit can be flushed easily as a routine maintenance. All it takes is one twist of the fill valve and it comes apart for flushing (check out the video in Kohler's official website). The old metal unit was mush harder to do. Since this unit is made with plastic so I don't expect scale to build up inside the unit to plug up the water supply and slow down the fill time like the metal unit would. I am glad I bought this unit.

Do the job well!!!
* Update (05/23/2014) - As an experiment, I've just swapped the plastic riser with the old copper riser. The connector is perfectly fit...It is quiet like new...I highly recommend to use the old copper...Definitely, you need to clean calcium residue on the connector's surface... I still give the product five stars. If you just buy rubber rings and valves at some websites, the cost (including shipping) is almost the same with valve. * Kohler replaces 1018282 for 1-piece toilet K-3388 with this plastic 1068030 fill value. While both of them almost the same, the original OEM has riser made of copper so am little skeptical about it. The price is 1/3 of copper part but it is made by Kohler as a replacement so I gives it a try. Pro: * FIll time is much faster as someone mentioned. I guess the bigger riser does the job. * Cheap * Made by Kohler to meet its specification. So it perfectly fits. The fill valve is really compact with 10" height. Generic fill values will not fit. * It is easy to assemble. It took me around 20-25min to replace the fill value and flapper. Con: * The original copper OEM is more quiet. I guess the copper part helps it. I did adjust water flow-in, but it did not help...Someone suggest to swap the copper riser...I might try it latter. Other thought about copper riser, it is not about durability since the rubber ring and value will break first before other plastic parts. It really makes a little bit more quiet especially at night...

No Tube Required !!!
This was a simple installation. However, we were totally baffled by the fill tube, which I replaced from the old unit. While the installation worked great, the water was filling from the bottom and not via the tube. After checking numerous reviews……it turns out someone had called Kohler and they said the tube was no longer required…….there is a nipple on top for a connection….and another reviewer said if you drill it out, it will work. Anyway, the install took 10 minutes and the research took an hour. It works great and is filling the tank in about 1/3 of the time it took prior to the upgrade.

Works with Model 747
The top of my valve says model 747. Fit perfectly. I just did not need the plastic too. Mine already had a brass tube in place. The reason for the four stars is because it does not come with the fill tube. Which is the white rubber or plastic tubing you see in the photo. Had to use my original tubing. Other than that, it was easy to install and works great. Just turn the water valve on the wall to the off position, flush the toilet, rotate the blue not that connected to the brass valve towards the wall, pull the pieces apart, put the new piece in by rotating it back and forth until it flips into your old nut, rotate the nut back towards you till it locks in place. Then adjust the white plastic screw up or down until the water level is where you want it to be. Screwing it towards the wall puts more water in your tank and away from the wall puts less water in your tank. Done!

Exact replacement for Kohler K3386 one piece toilet.
2/25/2013 - Replaced a second old, original installation Fill Valve OEM 1006733in my other Kohler Rialto K3386DA toilet with another new Kohler Fill Valve pn 1068030. The Fill Valve kit comes with a new steel braided line, but the old steel braided line was OK -- attached to the new Fill Valve with no leaks at full pressure. Again, new Fill Valve works great. Old valve took 1 1/2 minutes to fill (oh, so slow!), but the new valve only takes 35 seconds (yep, I stop-watched it). Update on the Fill nipple - not sure if it's just ornamental or a leftover from the molding process, but the nipple doesn't seem to do anything now -- no water comes out of it, nor air gets sucked into it. Water fill comes from the second white tube that the blue float is mounted on. As a precaution against uncontrolled water spray, I attached a 6-12" piece of 0.2" or 5mm I.D. plastic tubing to fit the fill nipple and inserted the tubing into the flush valve / overflow tube Kohler pn 84996. Tool tip -- you only need a pair of pump pliers to GENTLY remove tight, old plastic nuts, and a Philips head screwdriver to adjust the float position. A handheld mirror lying on the floor below the old plastic nut under the toilet water tank proved VERY HANDY for the installation (no need to lie down on the floor)! Kohler Fill Valve Assembly Kit # 1068030 -- Exact replacement for my Kohler Rialto K3386DA toilets. Kohler Fill Valve pn 1068030 has replaced the old discontinued 1007488 (which in turn replaced an even older discontinued OEM 1006733). This newest Kohler Fill Valve pn 1068030 DOES FILL MUCH FASTER than the old OEM 1006733. Reference: Kohler K3386 1-Piece Toilet Homeowners Guide 1011570_5-A.pdf ; or look up Kohler parts site: [...] *** (see my update above) 1 minor annoyance with kit - *message for KOHLER* - you need to include a 6-12" piece of 0.2" or 5mm I.D. plastic tubing to fit the overflow nipple and drain into the flush valve / overflow tube Kohler pn 84996. I fortunately had some handy, but That should be included in the kit!

Another WTF Kohler moment
I truly hate Kohler toilets. Why does Kohler insist on doing the easiest thing in the most complicated way? Anyway. As mentioned by another reviewer, you need to drill out the nipple for it to work. Nowhere is this mentioned on the packaging/instructions. I called customer service mid job, and they gave me instructions on how to flush the valve. No amount of flushing will clear a hole that isn't there to begin with. I ended up breaking off the nipple while removing the hose (which was not included). That's when I discovered the absent hole. Too late to drill now that the nipple is broken. A 15 minute job took 2 hours and I ended up reinstalling the original noisy valve that did have a hole. I took apart the new broken valve and can see that the internals are set up for it to function properly if the hole was there. The person that I talked to at Kohler after returning home from the job, said they had no idea of any such problem or defect. They will be sending me a replacement which should be here in 10 days.

Simple installation; better footprint than original part
Had to replace the 10-year old original fill valve of the Kohler Santa Rosa toilet bowl (Kohler Ref. Model 703) that failed to stop the water inflow. Did try to clean up the unit by removing some of the calcium deposit from water, a repair procedure that works in some cases. But did not work in my case. Ordered this replacement part online. Shipped on time. Pretty simple and straight forward to install it. As it is an all-plastic unit, the valve is light and does provide a feeling that it was cheaply made. Removing the old valve was simple with only one screw in the bottom. Installing the new one was actually easier. Make sure do not screw too tightly. You don't want to put too much stress on the black washer. The valve works very nicely and much quieter than the old one. I was also able to adjust the level of water to save water. You cannot save much water though, due to the inherent design of the toilet bowl. Overall, I am pleased with the replacement unit. Smaller footprint, simpler mechanics, ease of installation, and original part from Kohler. Although slightly more expensive than the third-party valves found in local hardware store, the original part provides peace of mind and time savings.
