The Manga is every bit as good as the Anime!
I am a big-time Angel Beats fan who has watched the Anime many, many times and fall in love with the characters, music, and story each and everytime. I had heard there was a prequel Manga but not knowing Japanese I couldn't read it obviously. Fast forward to April 2016 and I realized they started releasing the series in English! I put my order down as fast I could and waited patiently to receive my copy. After reading through it within minutes of opening my package I can say that I am very happy with the prequel Manga series! The main character is Hinata this time around and he is telling Otonashi the story of how he met Yurippe and formed the Afterlife Battlefront with all the other members. We get to see details of events that they didn't have time to show in the anime such as Ooyama becoming Hinata's roomate and Yurippe kicking Hinata off the roof (several times I might add). It has all the humor and character development you'd expect from the Anime so you won't be disappointed. In the end this book is not without its flaws though. There is one instance where the word "square" is spelled incorrectly as "squar" and another instance where text box bubbles seem to overlap and cover up a word or two. Luckily these errors are the only ones I spotted and are very obvious to figure out what was meant to be said. The final product is highly recommended to fans of the original Anime. The story is pieced together so well that even readers new to the series will not be confused.

AMAZING
If you loved the anime this gives you the back story to the main story, ties everything very nicely together and is a must read for any fan!

A fresh look
This was a fresh look at this series. It differs from the anime a lot but it has my attention. Can't wait for the next volume!

Thought it would disappoint me, but I was way wrong.
This was far better than I expected it to be. The art is decent, but not anything to write home about. However, it feels very much like the anime - and that's a good thing. It's exciting to see things build up to how they are at the beginning of the anime - so far, we just have Yuri, Hinata, Ooyama, Char, and Angel, but they are introduced in very fluid and natural ways. I'm excited to see how they form the Afterlife Battlefront, as well as how they find new members. Most of all, I'm excited to finally read a series with no romantic tension between the male and female leads. Apparently there's nine volumes of this so far in Japanese, so we're in for a long haul. I'm looking forward to it.Also, Seven Seas, "SSS Brigade?" Really? I know Yuri is essentially a Haruhi clone, but come on.Oh yeah, I do have to dock points for an embarrassing typo I caught. They said "squar" instead of "square." Proofread your work better, guys! And this next thing doesn't have anything to do with this review in particular, but I recently noticed that Seven Seas only capitalizes the letter "i" when it's the pronoun "I." Even if they start a sentence with an i word, they keep it lowercase. I wonder why that is.

Nette Vorgeschichte
