If you're considering the switch, do it!
Having used the Diva Cup for 5+ years now, I was extremely hesitant on switching brands. However, the Diva Cup costs 10 dollars more than this one, and so I gave it a go. I'm glad I did.I purchased Size 1 in Transparent Blue.I love that it comes in multiple colors. My Diva Cup gets stained after a while (yes, even with boiling water after each cycle), and I replace them about once every six months. I expect this will last about the same amount of time, but I noticed 2 things about the Athena Cup that make it not only a cheaper option than the Diva Cup, but a better one, in addition to the fact that there are a choice of colors that should, I hope, make the staining less of a glaring disaster.1. If you are a "shallow" girl like me, or if your cervix sits low, this is the better alternative. The cup is marginally stouter than the Diva Cup (I have not measured, but would guess only by 3-4 cm), and the stem is about a centimeter shorter. Also important -- the Diva Cup has a "hollow" stem, which means blood or debris will get caught inside the stem. Yuck. No such issue with the Athena Cup!2. The material is softer! Flexible and gentle, the way my Diva Cups feel *after* a few uses to loosen them up. Due to the nature of the product, the fact that it starts out this way doesn't mean it will get *too* loose either... it's like buying a pair of shoes already broken in. A big thumbs up from me!Cute colors, great product, and it's $10 cheaper than the Diva Cup. If you're considering the switch, do it! Save yourself $10 and get a nice customizable color and a better product while you're at it. :)

As good as my Diva cup and LESS expensive!
I bought several cups to review here on Amazon. I also have a Diva cup which is much more expensive. I wanted to see if the quality and comfort of the cheaper cups was comparable to the Diva cup.I received a green Athena cup, which is my favorite color. They have lots of pretty colors to choose from and the bags are also cute with a ribbon that has the brand name for a drawstring. I like that because when I was reaching for a cup I could tell which one it was easily. I bought a size two because I have had children. The cup comes with instructions on how to use it. The cup itself is somewhat firm, I would say it feels the same as a diva cup. If I close my eyes I can't feel the difference in the two. With the Diva cup I had to cut the tail off because it bothered me, but this cup has a very short firm tail and didn't bother me at all. I could wear it very low and it was comfortable. This cup has 4 holes around the rim to break suction when removing the cup. So when I inserted the cup it went in fine with the punch down fold. I felt the rim pop out with no problem. The base of the cup was firm enough that I could twist the cup to make sure it was in place and I also like to pull down gently so its not so high and I know I have a good seal. This cup never leaked and I wore it all night without changing it and in the morning it had a great seal and contained everything. Also it seems like all of the cups I bought including the Diva cup are basically the same height and rim size (post pregnancy size). Overall I really like this cup and I would buy it again! It was a great price much cheaper than the Diva at only $14.95.

Read This First!
So prior to ordering, I had no idea what to look for, now that I have this one, I have nothing to compare it to, but this is what I have experienced... First of all, it is awkward. You do need to insert it with your fingers, and it can be messy. Hint: give it a spin to make sure it seals. Once it does, the suction and seal are both intense. But no leaks! There is a science to it which you can only figure out after a few uses. Wear a liner at first while you get the hang of it. You don't need to change with every pee, which is great. Once you pull it out you will feel the suction and it isn't easy at times. Dump into toilet. Awkward again when you have to rinse it in a sink (especially in public). However, the amount of money I have saved in pads/tampons and new underwear has already above and beyond paid for this product. Plus no stinky mess in the garbage or fear of forgetting to sneak anything into the bathroom. The best part is the environmental impact!! It comes in a cute carrying pouch. I have no children, got the 2nd size and it is honestly extremely comfortable when you follow the directions (which I strongly encourage you to read fully prior to first use). I do encourage every female to get one of these diva cups!

WARNING WARNING!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS CUP. First of all... it doesn't work well. I used to use the diva cup until I gave birth and quickly realized I needed a larger cup. I purchased this one because it was inexpensive compared to the Diva cup. The walls are way too flimsy and doesn't pop open and seal. Aside from the fact that it doesn't work, I came to find out that this cups brand doesn't have an official website. Which is fishy AF. THEN I saw that this cup is made in China. RED FLAG. This means that the manufacturing of this cup isn't regulated to U.S. standards. Silicon produced in china is widely known to contain lead. LAST BUT NOT LEAST... the physical effects...within a day of using this cup my face and neck broke out in a horrible rash that stayed for an entire week. (Its the only new thing I was exposed to, I didn't even leave the my home that day). After that during my ovulation, I experienced spotting which scared the crap out of me. I've NEVER bled during ovulation. I honestly wish I could sue this company, but seeing as there is NO WEBSITE OR WAY to contact them, I'll settle for this review. I literally threw this in the trash.

No more luxury item tax, no more TTS and no more tampons washing up on the shore of your paradise island!
I am never going back to those degrading wads of cotton again! I am free from the shackles of the luxury item tax. These cup things, despite weirding some people out, are a life saver, when sanitary bins are no where to be found, or the day when you seriously underestimate the power of your menstrual flow and have naively only popped a regular size tampon up there on the day you decided to wear that cute new white skirt to work to try and catch the eye of fit Gregg, who you're pretty sure is a butt guy and man does your butt look good in that new white skirt, much better than Stacey's for sure... well that is... until... the Great Leak. Have no fear!! for these cups can hold much more than a tampon and so.... as long as they're correctly inserted, are far superior to any other kind of menstrual control product (wings or no wings).AND they last for so long, like 10 years long (save money).AND they help the environment (no more tampons getting stuck up dolphin noses).AND you can get fun colours (stylish, even match your underwear if that's what you're into).AND no toxic shock syndrome (you never have to worry about losing a limb on the battlefield which is your period again!)P.S. Okay sometimes it nocturnally migrates up towards your cervix for a closer look and some mornings you might, hypothetically of course, panic and think you're never getting out and it's stuck up there forever and you'll never get a boyfriend again, but all you gotta do is wait for gravity to do it's thing (maybe aided along by a few squats - always love a few squats) and it soon comes shimmying on down. Also it's not like it can be in there for "too long" like a tampon so you're good to live your life without The Fear!

Where have you been all my periods?
You are on the fence. Sounds cool... who doesnt hate tampons? But sticking fingers up there... getting blood everywhere.... I know cause I had the same concerns. From the other side: just so it. Its comfortable, easy and suprisingly simple to empty. Yes there is a learning curve, you will need to put it in and take it out several times before you get the hang of it. But worth it in the end. This model is perfect and the price point is excellent. Stop reading and buy it! Your vagina will thank you. :)

Absolute game-changer
This is the first and only menstrual cup I've tried, so bear in mind that I have no idea how this compares to other brands. That said, I've found that this works really well for my particular body. (For reference, I have the smaller size. I've never given birth, and I'm on the pill so my periods aren't super heavy.) I was a little worried about some of the negative reviews, but I figured if it didn't work out I'd return it and spring for a Diva Cup or one of the other pricier options. So far, I haven't felt compelled to.The instructions it comes with are clear but brief. (The booklet has a lot of pages, but only the first few are in English.) I'd suggest looking online for a more thorough step-by-step--the instructions are pretty much the same for all the different brands of cups.I ordered mine in the solid purple color, and it's a darker purple in real life than what's shown in the picture. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.Because I'm on the pill, I can predict pretty accurately when my period will start, so I put the Athena Cup in for the first time the night before I expected to start bleeding. (I did research beforehand, and it's totally safe to have it in when you're not on your period.) That way, I didn't have to deal with a bloody mess the first time I put it in (and it WILL take many tries and a bit of experimentation before you get it in there successfully). There was definitely a bit of a learning curve at first, especially with removal, but I was able to figure it out after a few tries and then it was no big deal. It just takes practice and some getting used to. Again, definitely set aside at least 15-20 minutes the first time you try to put it in. As some other reviewers have suggested, it's also a good idea to use a back-up liner at first. Once I figured it out, though, I had zero leaks. I can also hardly feel it at all once it's in (it's definitely less noticeable than a tampon), which is great.I was initially concerned about the reviews saying that the Athena Cup is flimsy and doesn't open up all the way once it's in there. I will say that when I put mine in I don't really feel the "pop" that you're allegedly supposed to feel when it opens up. However, I've found that it DOES open as long as I insert it at the correct angle, and I've learned to recognize what it feels like when it's fully open. (Your experience may vary depending on your own personal anatomy, of course, but it worked for me personally.) Again, I haven't had any issues with leaking thus far, so I assume it's working the way it's supposed to.Overall, I'm really happy with this product, and will definitely keep using it in place of pads or tampons in the future. I should also add that menstrual cups are NOT for everyone--they do feel pretty weird at first, you have to get pretty up close and personal with your insides, and they're definitely harder to use than pads or tampons. I wouldn't blame someone for not liking these just in terms of the concept. But as someone who is completely on board with the idea of menstrual cups, this one is great.

Too soft.
I've been using menstrual cups for years, mooncup and divacup. I left my divacup somewhere and decided to try this as a replacement. It's too soft! I folded it 3 different ways and it simply would not pop open inside me, I was wiggling it and twisting it inside me, but it simply wouldn't pop open. After ten minutes of trying I gave up and used a tampon.I've never had this problem with the firmer cups so it must just be too soft, and I see other reviewers had this issue as well.
