It holds about 15 to 16 cups of food comfortably (16 if up to the brim). **Q: What is the Water capacity of the 4 lb container** A: I didn't measure water capacity but I did measure cups of dog food - I fit 15 cups of dog food comfortably in it and just barely got a 16th cup filling it to the brim. They keep food fresh, they're durable enough to last the entire life of your pet, and they'll keep just about anything out that isn't a very determined racoon. But a five pound capacity was more than I wanted to store food for my tiny bird that eats a tablespoon a day. I was glad to discover this smaller design available, and have used it to create and store a custom food mix for my bird, without having to worry about it going stale or drawing pests.
