It works well in providing relief for more of an ache than an actual pain. However, there were two things that were not so good. First, upon opening, it has a pretty bad smell. I ended up having to put it outside for two days. Second, heating it in the microwave for 2 minutes (as directed in the instructions) is too long. This made it too hot. I would recommend 90 seconds, maybe 100. What is very nice about this heating pad are the two handles.
