These are quality knives. They're not serrated (the serrated ones are cheaper), and so they cut precisely and can be sharpened using a sharpener from your knife block.They're weighted nicely and have a good feel in the hand. The wood is real and is on the lighter side but if you wanted to darken it you could just rub in some linseed oil, which would make it more durable anyway. They cannot be put in the dishwasher, but whatever, cleaning knives is easy.Some have commented that the gift box is made of cardboard. Yes, it's not wood, but it's nice enough to not be too cheap. I think its fine to give as a gift, but yes, these aren't show-stoppers. They are nice knives.
