Am I the ONLY one with major sticker shock for this item? $12.99 for 12 tiny upholstery pins... that over a buck a piece! SELLER???

When I bought them they were 8.99 and I did think that was high but I needed them for pinning a chair cover. I do not see why they are so high priced. On the plus side they really worked well and hold tightly.

I've never used these. Are they placed under the mattress and pushed into the top of the boxspring through the bedskirt?

Place them around the side of the skirt and boxspring, they wont show, if you put them on top when you move the mattress off for any reason like flipping the mattress or changing head to foot you will pull the tops off, mine are around the top side and the skirting is staying in place, have not tried unscrewing them so don't know how that will turn out when it is time to wash the skirting. I got the pack of 50 which was $6,00 and look just the same as these so have plenty of spares.

Where are these manufactured?

I'm sorry. I really don't remember; however, they work very well. I have had then for over a year and I have tightened only one since I purchased them.

I don't have a box spring. Would these work to pin a bedskirt to a Simmons Beautyrest motorized base?

I would be careful not to place the pins near the motorized area, but otherwise it should be OK. They go deeply in and keep the skirt very secure. Don’t pull on the skirt once you have finished securing it, or you might tear it. Good Luck!
