It does not fit a 1/2 in threaded hitch. The 1/2 in diameter is only for the smooth portion of the pin but not the bolt/threaded part. **Q: Do I need to purchase the locking pin?** A: The Max Haul bike rack does not come with a locking pin. So if you want a locking pin you will have to buy one. But as a side note the bar that fits into your hitch has a large screw with pin that keeps it in your hitch. It does take a few minutes to screw it in or unscrew it. That in itself may be a theft deterrent. **Q: It looks like the entire length of the hitch pin is threaded but of two different thread sizes.
