I Think, Therefore I Am: All the Philosophy You Need to Know (8) (I Used to Know That ...)

Brilliant
....at what it does, which is not to provide an 'in-depth' overview of the development and main ideas of Western philosophy and neither anywhere, front or back, does it claim to do this! What it is is a kind of succinct 'bluffers guide' to philosophy so that, when encountered, in more serious tomes that do claim to acquaint the reader with more than a passing understanding view of the terrain they will have some familiarity. It wets the appetite and definitely made this reader hungry for more!

Inexcusable malapropism
I was enjoying a sample of this book, in an entertaining, gliding-over-the-surface-of-philosophy way, when the author used the word 'previous' instead of 'premature'. Readers should be given the courtesy of correct vocabulary as in this instance the writer self-sabotaged to the extent that I stopped reading and deleted the sample in dismay. This error in vocabulary downgraded the entire book for me.

Two Titles...Same Book!
A brief note before you purchase this book: The book and its contents otherwise known as "I Think Therefore I Am," has also been published under a different title: "I Used to Know That Philosophy: Stuff You Forgot from School." They are one and the same.Is this a case of plagiarism? or perhaps a dirty marketing ploy? Either way, don't be caught unawares and purchase the same book twice.

Hmmm...
This book fails to stand up to its title. I Think, Therefore I Am is constructed from very short, usually a 2-3 page overview of each of the world's most famous philosophers and their work. Obviously, from such superficial summaries you will not learn "all the philosophy you need to know".Don't get me wrong, this book is well written, and at times even amusing; I'm just somewhat undecided as to what can be learned from it. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this book even to people who are interested in a short glimpse to the world of philosophy.

Introduction text to philosophy
This book is very easy to read, main philosophical schools and thoughts from ancient Greek to modern times are covered. It can be good for somebody who is interested to get into the topic and encourage you to take further studies on the subject. Can serve as a quick reference to the main philosophical thoughts and it will serve the ones who don't want to study the philosophy deeper but just want to be informed about the main achievements and contributions of certain philosophers.

Excellent 'toe-dipper' into Philosophy
As an English & Philosophy graduate I wanted something to dip into to remind myself of what I learned all those years ago (then promptly forgot). This is perfect for that. A good 'toe-dipper' of a book to keep by the bed!

Reasonably engaging.
Not engaging enough to get me through it all.

A simple yet concise collection of information, ideas and writings of some of the greatest minds in the field of Philosophy. While others involve going through wordy theories and ideas, in a way that is easy to follow and a must for any fan of Philosophy.
