Counterpart BD [Blu-ray]

Diabolical Stuff.
In English almost entirely with a few lines of German occasionally but all the dialogue is covered by English subtitles.Complicated plot painstakingly portrayed over 10 episodes and not a minute to be lost or the plot will be gone. Totally absorbing drama with one of those character actors from countless films and tv series J.K.Simmons taking center stage in the dual role of two completely different men living, existing in two parallel universes. Simmons usually play a duplicitous 'heavy' but here he is the hero or at least in one of his double roles.Simmons is quite brilliant, even cleverly giving each of his characters a unique walk as well as personality and clothes that differentiate them. The action moves along slowly but it is the mystery and drama that holds this first season together. Feels like a cold war thriller but as that has abated in recent times, maybe temporarily?, this is a 'cold alternative universe' thriller and being set in Berlin adds to the intrigue. Perhaps the background German language used adds to that element. Wonderful stuff that exercises the brain.

Best show on TV that you've never seen
This is both a gripping spy story and a meditation on how the choices we make affect who we are. First-rate alternate history story about two universes in conflict. Must-see.

A spectacular spy thriller with a touch of cold War-era and spice of sci-fi
A tremendously entertaining series with lots of twist, compelling story, and an incredible performance by J.K Simmons; playing dual roles and delivering perfectly. A riveting, action-packed and heart-pounding edge of your seat thriller that keeps your pulse racing as well as your adrenaline.

Not your usual spy thriller
While I am, admittedly, only seven episodes into this first season on DVD, I am fascinated by any unfolding story which explores the political/social/psychological/diplomatic consequences of discovering billions of us living next door to billions of others identical to us in a parallel universe, for better or worse. Are the lives of one world better or worse, what sort of technological advantages (or lack of them) would exist, which celebrities, family members, loved ones, et al are alive in one world, but not in another? Might the ills of one world be blamed (rightly or wrongly) on actions of those in another? And how might it influence any given person who learns that his/her personal fortune, career, health, love life, etc. in one world is a consequence of one tiny, seemingly unimportant decision in one's past in another world where one chose a different fork in the road?Of course, this assumes the dual existence of these worlds is public knowledge, rather than a secret fiercely guarded by a handful of diplomats in the know, as billions of folks being aware of this might easily be an explosive nightmare, a genie impossible to return to its bottle.COUNTERPART is just the sort of series that explores such questions. And although I have yet to complete viewing Season One, as I said earlier, it's come to my attention from other viewers--minus any spoilers from them--that the season ends in a shocking manner that one simply does not see coming. I can't recommend this series enough, and hope to see more of it.
