Footwear Design (Portfolio Skills: Fashion & Textiles)

I was more than pleasantly surprised with this book when I received it. The book's contents were certainly not detailed properly in the synopsis on Amazon.I find it to be an excellent reference point for all budding footwear designers.It shows the history of footwear, design techniques, how to research and lay out a collection.I am so happy I bought this book and intend to divulge all its contents. I can see I am going learn many secrets about footwear design that will make me a better footwear designer. Please note that this book is more for footwear design than the actual construction. Although it does briefly demonstrate the use of a shoe last and how a pattern is laid out, it doesnt really give pull out sections on design patterns for shoes. You need a pattern cutting book for shoes for that one. However if you want to learn about footwear design itself then this is your manual of choice!

I loved this book! It was very informational and had a lot of great ideas and tips. Granted, I’ve only seen two shoe design books but this was a great one for me to pick up and start with. Has info on different types of leather and materials used for shoes as well as its prosperities. Had design ideas. Interviews with people in the industry. Illustration tips and templates. Love this!!

great read love crafting this is another off shoot from sewing fabrics to learning how to sew leather it has proven to be invaluable information to carry on to the next project in mind.

Bought this after seeing it displayed in my favorite show workshop. It is very informative, inspiring and has great pics. I haven't read many other guides on making shoes but this seems like a greta intro to show making and footwear design. Would make a great coffee table book as well as reference guide.

It's pretty comprehensive and detailed about design process. It shows the skills and the methods pretty much as same as schools. Many design books are so theoretical that you need too read a lot of content and get bored soon. But the book is practical and not too theoretical. It simply illustrates what you should do to design a shoe from the start to the end. It's better than I expected. I think it's pretty useful.

Good textbook. Clearly written and organised. Lots of pictures and drawings. Research and collection design chapters are particularly interesting and inspiring.

This book provided a lot of information although it was not quite what I was looking for. I thought that it would tell me how to start designing shoes from scratch instead it gave me more history about shoe designs over different eras.

really lovely comprehensive book! Very clear, with a lot of case studies very useful to understand shoe world from hand making to sketching to create a portfolio. Each chapter, simple, clear, and full of interesting information. Suggested for whoever is interested to start a carrier on shoemaking of shoe fashion design.

Déçu. Le livre est certes intéressant mais je pensais que c'était plein de patrons de chaussures. Et comme il n'y a presque pas de photos lors de l'achat, on découvre le contenu qune fois acheté.
