In my opinion, sometimes you buy the book now and save it for later. I bought the book "Daddy, Papa and Me" before we even had a child because I knew it would be relivent one day, and because I was aware of certain themed books shelf life- the book is now for sale for around $1,000., I bought it for under ten. . Years, maybe 4, I read it to both my son and my daughter, and they loved it. To a younger audience it might have been scary, but as a parent you generally know what you child can handle. I personally would not read this book to a two year old designer baby, it is beyond her comprehension... In my experience, it takes "baby steps" and letting your child come to you for information rather than offering, because they may already know more than you think, or they may be secluded and clueless. I think any reasonable parent, gay or straight would think twice about reading this book to a 2 year old. This makes the concepts harder to understand... Because eventually, he/she will wonder how did I come to be... there are books similar, however not designed for our type of families unique circumstances, and this is certainly not a good example of one. Since the majority of egg donors are either anonymous or do not want or care to know about the results... and since obtaining eggs is a little bit harder than just asking a friend- and for the most part that is not how people obtain eggs anyway, my eggs where from an anonymous egg donor. Modern Family is here to stay, better to head certain things off at the pass I think. Now if your child was conceived by you and your partner asking a friend for her eggs, and then another friend for her body for nine months- this book is for you! But, if you do not have those two components, all this book will do is deceive your child into thinking it was a simple process, and both woman live down the street, and in my opinion, will cause more difficulty to grasp the fact that it was not a fairytale start-finish. In reality, this is a real fairytale from concept to story to reading to your child. I personally will not read this book to my children and I wish I had understood how fairytale-ish they make everything.... Certainly I would not recommend reading this book to your child if you do not have contact with BOTH your egg donor AND surrogate, bc it is misleading and will cause even more confusion.But if your eggs where from your good friend or relative, and your other friend carried for you... Here you go... Sadly, that is NOT the case for the majority of people, if it could only be that simple!Am I an expert, no. Well, yes. I am a gay father, with a legal husband and we have two children with one on the way.
