OTTERBOX Preserver Series Waterproof Case for iPhone 5 / 5S / SE - Primrose

Edit: jst came back from a 5 day bahamas cruise and this case was surely put to the test. I took over 500 photos/videos w.o removing the case since i bought it. Screen does not recognize touch when water is on it. Simply blow off the excess water on the screen. To take pictures in at the pool, jst use the volume buttons. Wish i cld post photos, to show the clarity of them. But bump to 5 stars!! Before i start this, i considered this and griffin one. I also borrowed a friends lifeproof fre beforehand. Very pleased w this product. I am although, very cautious while using this in hand or placing in pocket or on table. Knowing that it is shockproof, i feel that if i do drop it, the seal or gasket will be compromised. I am writing this review while the case is on and i must say that u do hv to press alil harder to type. Scrolling there is a lag. Nothing to worry tho. The mute switch is a bit hard to toggle. But doubt ill be using it as much. Volumes n lock button work as it shld. Sizing is perfect in my opinion. Durable, hard rubber n plastic feel. There shld be no need for a case like this to be slim n waterproof. The sound is okay. I wldnt know why anyone wld care so much for it while having a waterproof case. Camera is best in this case. The Fre left a plastic warp to the picture which made me feel iffy bout it. With this case, it doesnt seem altered in any way. So taking pics felt right and normal. The case i received works jst fine. I only gave it 4 stars because it is only my second day o having it. Tip. I think everyone using this case w the fingerprint shld also consider using the assistive touch button. Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch>On. This wld help from pressing the home button so much that wld cause wear n tear. And possible leak from that area.

Solid case, good form, doesn't add much size to the phone but plenty of protection. I just upgraded from an iphone 4s with an Otterbox Armor case, previously had used several Defender series cases on my 4 and 4s prior to the Armor, and now have moved to an iphone SE with this Preserver series case. With the Defender series, the rubber-like outer shell wears fairly easily, can become loose, flaps begin to tear off eventually, and it just doesn't last because of such issues. The Armor series is great and about as bulletproof as you can get, but it is quite bulky. People would often be in awe of the size of my phone because it looked like a brick. I know someone with an Armor series on an iphone 5, and while they did slim it down slightly from the 4/4s version, it's still a bulky case. With that in mind, but still wanting something waterproof, I figured the Preserver was well worth the try for $23 on Amazon. No disappointment with the product. The materials are more like that of the Armor than the Defender, with plastic and a hard rubber-type secondary material (all the green on this particular one) rather than the soft, flexible rubber of the Defender. While I've seen a reference or two in other reviews to the material deteriorating, in my experience with the Armor case, it was nearly 2 years before some of the shell began to tear slightly around the edges. Even so, this was in more of a flaky manner that doesn't remotely take away from its purpose. I expect similar with the Preserver. Another review referenced a corner that does not snap completely because of design. Well, yes, it is an intentional design but it actually does snap. If you look at the design, you'll see that there's a section that is inset along the edge, providing a place to aid in gripping the corner to unsnap the case. It absolutely does snap and seal completely, it's just that one corner looks different than the other three. Overall, very pleased with this case. Difficult to open it up, but that's about a good thing, too. Good design, very similar to a Lifeproof case, but much cheaper at Amazon's prices.

I always like to start off my review giving a reasoning for looking for and purchasing a product like the Otterbox Preserver Case. My challenge was having a slim case that would repel sweat. When I run and sweat, sometimes more than others. I would frequently pull my phone in a "normal" case, and also always with a screen protector, out of my pocket or the pouch on the front of the hydration pack and it would be soaking wet. I think I ruined a Galaxy S2 that way (and it won't turn on anymore). When I bought the iPhone 5s, it was the most expensive phone I had ever purchased. In the interest of protecting it from perspiration, I bought a pouch protector, universal of course, thinking it would easily attach with a strap to my upper arm when I run. In this case, I bought the FRIEQ Universal Waterproof Case With Waterproof External Earphone/ Accessory Jack and Armband for Apple iPhone 5, Galaxy S3, HTC One X, Galaxy Note 2 This case which I have also done a review on, would probably be a better solution for people really wanting the waterproof experience to take underwater photos and video. It seemed to be well suited for that, but not for my use in exercising. So I chose this one based on the reviews and the criticisms were pretty accurate: the screen cover I have conflicts with the screen cover for the Otterbox so you get some reflection and distracting dark spots. I don't plan on changing this as I will only be using the cover during exercise. My main concerns would be access to the earphone port (headphone jack) which is a pretty thick piece of rubber, this is peaking my interest in obtaining some Bluetooth headphones, but I digress. The installation of the phone is pretty easy, but inserting the bottom part of the back first and then clicking it together until there are no gaps. The few times I've run with it so far have provided good protection against sweat, which I easily wipe off after a run. Getting the phone out of the case was a little more challenging. I keep a stiff, thin money clip on my desk and use it on the top corner opposite the camera where there appears to be a channel to place a coin or stiff object to pry it open. My complaints with the case are few, because it meets, so far, the requirements I have for it and it is really sturdy. Voice calls with headset are the same for obvious reasons, but the use of the earpiece and speakerphone are not as audible. The on/off toggle above the volume buttons is difficult to toggle through the tough plastic (and it's not very tactile). So for me, it's slim, keeps sweat out, and fits easily in a pocket (when the Frieq didn't). I heard a lot of people had issues with the fingerprint reader. I have a simple fix: put it in the case, and REDO your finger prints or add another set of prints. Worked great for me.

These aren't cheap, but they are SO much better than having to replace my phone. I don't worry about rain or falls or splashes with this case on. And amazingly it doesn't make the phone prohibitively huge, in my opinion. I've had an Otterbox Defender for a previous phone, which I thought was much bulkier. It's also genuinely pretty amazing that they make a waterproof case that still allows you to use the touchscreen and fingerprint tech, listen to the speakers, use the buttons, and charge, all without taking the case off. The first one of these I got was a dud -- it was waterproof enough, but the screen and fingerprint button stopped being responsive through the case after a few weeks. But I exchanged it, and haven't had any long-term issues since (sometimes it can be finnicky, but I wipe everything off, and things get working again). The pink one gets pretty dirty and ratty looking quickly (like within a few months), and I'd assume that would be an issue with the lighter colored ones. It still works, mind you, but it looks sort of gray, and frayed in places. I definitely recommend testing the waterproofness, as the insert explains how to do -- it made me feel better about the whole question of actual waterproofness.

I upgraded to the iPhone SE directly from Verizon, for slightly over $400 when it was released. It had my Otterbox 5S cover/case on it at first, obviously, I wanted to keep it protected. I shopped around, trying to find this exact version, the Pink Preserver Case. My friend and I have a small boat & we spend a lot of time out on it in the spring, summer, & fall, so not having a waterproof case isn't even an option. Then came today, a day off, lunch with a longtime friend, and I noticed my phone started to show funky purplish/blue lines running over the screen. Turned it off, back on, and it seemed better. Within a few minutes, it started again. I had never seen anything like it before. I figured I'd stop by the Verizon store, & let them figure it out. I also pay a hefty fee every month for insurance, always have, for loss or damage, yet never had to use it in the last 8 years. When the tech looked at my phone, he asked me a very strange question, well at least at that moment it sounded strange; he asked me if I had recently taken a shower? I said as a matter of fact about two hours ago I did. Why are you asking me? He said did you take a hot shower? So I said you're getting a little personal, I don't understand the question. You said just one more and then I'll explain… The final question was did it last at least a half an hour or longer? I said yes no more than a half an hour He said so now you want to know why am asking you these very odd question. I said yes please explain. He told me that he could tell I didn't drop my phone in water but there was water damage done to my phone. I said but it's not wet, it hasn't been wet on the outside I would have noticed. I know I didn't drop it in water, I didn't put it near water, but even still, the case is waterproof … So I don't understand. He explained that the lines on the phone are indicators showing that water had gotten into one of the port and he tapped the bottom of the case. I said that's a waterproof case, I've always had that version of the OtterBox because it is 100% waterproof. And he said I understand it says it's waterproof, that's why I asked you the questions that I did. You have water condensation , Which just means that you must of had the phone somewhere close to the bathroom or in the bathroom with you and even with the ports covered, this case allows for water condensation. I said that's impossible, it's described as being able to be placed in over 6 feet of water for 30 minutes, assuming you have your flaps closed, your case keeps your phone 100% waterproof . He said I'm sorry it happens all the time, and even with your extra insurance, it's voided because they just lump all water damage together and it negates your insurance. I said so I've been buying the phone assuming that if I dropped it in the lake, it would be OK as long as I got it out of the water within 30 minutes… But I can't have it in my bathroom or near any steam because the steam can somehow penetrate the closed case and cause water damage through condensation. He said that's correct. I said so my brand-new phone is a total loss. his reply was yes ma'am, if we try to mail that back into Verizon and ask for a replacement citing your full coverage insurance, they would simply send you a bill for $400 and tell you they'll send you a new phone when you send the payment. I asked him to get his supervisor, and his supervisor of the store supported everything he told me. I told him I was going to call Customer Service in the morning and speak directly to Verizon. He said feel free but I am going to tell you people do it all the time and they are always denied. I said fine then I'll contact the seller who sold me the cover/case and find out who's in charge of executing the warranty of OtterBoxes guarantee that this phone is waterproof. That's how they sell it and promote it. But, they cannot advertise a phone case is waterproof up to 6.6 feet water proof for 30 minutes if it can't be in the bathroom while you're taking a 30 minute hot shower. That's ridiculous, it's fraud, and right now I am without a $400 iPhone SE because I believed that if I protected my phone with this cover my phone would be safe. And it wasn't and now it's sitting in the Verizon store, dead, while I have to make a financial decision about what to do about getting a new phone. I don't care what kind of phone it is, I'm not the kind of person who has to have the newest and the greatest electronic out on the market. Who I am is a woman who is chronically ill, fighting cancer, has to drive her self to Boston for treatments and on disability for eight years, which SUCKS at 46 yrs old. Shelling out another $400 for another silly phone is outrageous and unacceptable, and I'm still sitting here at 3 AM on a Saturday morning trying to figure out how this is my responsibility. I don't get it… in the meantime, I've written a note to the seller, asking who is responsible to cover the warranty on their guarantee that the case is waterproof so I can pursue this in some fashion. When I get answers, I'll update my review. But please, don't be naïve and believe that this case is waterproof. The only reason I'm taking the time to write this review is so that you don't have to deal with the same painful reality that I'm living in right now. It's not just about a defective case, it's about trusting you're buying the right case for your expensive phone and then finding out it doesn't do what it's supposed to; then your phone no longer works because you made a bad decision based on fraudulent information from OtterBox. UPDATE:!!! No reply to multiple emails sent to seller inquiring about warranty available on this case. Ended up registering a complaint with Amazon Customer Service, who was excellent and made a very quick decision for me. They saw the seller never responded to multiple emails, with my increase about how to follow up on a warranty or what my options were at the case cost me my brand-new phone. They told me I could absolutely return it and get my full refund (prime) and apologized for the lack of response from the seller.

Have been too afraid to actually test the waterproofing capabilities with my phone in the case, but I no longer get condensation from sweat while the phone is in my pocket--an annoyance I've had with other cases where I've had to take the phone out of the case, wipe the condensation away, and then put the case back on--so there must be at least some value of waterproofing. As far as my intended use of the case, for the purpose of not having condensation, as well as accidental drops in water or getting caught in the rain it serves my purpose. As far as protection goes, it's withstood some standards drops and it's even been stepped on and held up fine. There is a bit of an annoyance with the buzzing vibration during phone calls, but only a mild deterrence. I initially had trouble with the fingerprint reader working, but after taking the case apart and cleaning the inside of the case, it has worked fine. As others have mentioned, the mute toggle switch is inaccessible, but it is still possible to mute through the volume/do not disturb, but as a person who used the toggle switch frequently, it is quite annoying. Some may like to know that only apple chargers or third party chargers with a small enough connecting port will fit into the case, the same goes for the headphone jack because of the protective layer of the case making the ports further in. Other than that it works so far so well, but I don't intend to intentionally submerge the phone or go swimming with it anytime soon. Pros: -seems waterproof enough for my needs -protects phone from drops Cons: -buzzing/vibration during phone calls (somewhat remedied by putting on speakerphone or using a headset) -Mute toggle switch doesn't work Neutral: -Only apple chargers (or third party with small charging connector) will fit in the case -Headphone jacks have to be small enough/long to fit through the case in order to actually reach the jack and make a connection.

This case is great! I will use mine for hiking only, because there's no way this is going to fit in the pocket of an average female, but I have spent the evening playing with it and repeatedly assembling and disassembling the case. It feels very sturdy, and the moving parts feel stuck on there as they should. The cover for the silent mode toggle is a bit tough to operate on my iPhone 5s, but I was able to get it to function properly on the first try. I just needed to push a little harder than what I'm used to. The case assembles fast and disassembles easily if you follow the directions provided in the box. The trick is to rock your nail/coin/whatever you're using to open it back and forth while prying it open; don't just start trying to pull it apart because this thing is held together tight! The built-in screen protector is very responsive, and offers a very slight amount of extra room so I was able to use this case with a tempered glass screen protector already applied to my phone. OtterBox's website offers glass screen protectors designed for their cases, but I found that using a standard one fits just fine. The home button area is made of a different material that clings to the phone, and it has a nice feel. I did not experience issues pressing the home button as some other reviews have stated. I haven't tested making a call with it on yet, but I'll change my review if that turns out to be bad. If I haven't updated by tomorrow, it means that's working well enough for my purposes, and you can assume I have no complaints. Just a couple of extra tips I found useful while playing with this case: - Glance over the instructions, at least regarding the application and removal of this case. - If you're using Touch ID and are having trouble getting it to work, try setting it up again with the case already on. - If the speakers aren't loud enough for you because of the thickness of this case, search for the "toilet paper roll and Solo cup speakers" trick as a (practically) free solution around the house. This guides the sound back toward you, right where it should be. Or you can always pay for speakers, of course. I work in a quiet environment, so the sound coming from the phone is good enough for me.

I LOVE this case! I've always wanted to buy a waterproof case, either this case, or a Lifeproof one, but they were always too expensive, but now that this case was available for $40, I couldn't resist! I saw a lot of reviews talking about poor sound quality, and bulky-ness, but I've had no problems with either. Pros: I tried talking on the phone, and there were no problems. Playing music on full volume works just fine. The membrane over the home button scares me because of how thin it is, but I haven't had any problems with it. I haven't seen any of the rainbow rings (Newton Rings) that can happen with other cases. The port covers work great. I purchased the Pistachio model, and I love the color scheme. Since the case is waterproof, if the screen is covered in greasy fingerprints or anything else, just wash it off! Extremely handy. A lot of reviews say it's bulky, but it's the same size (if not slightly more thin) than the Defender series. The speaker will not work when its wet/submerged, but if you blow the water out, it works perfectly. The case fits together extremely well, it will not fall apart easily. There is even more access to the screen (at the top and bottom) than the Defender series. The beveled back edge of the case gives it a very comfortable feel. Cons: The silent switch is very hard to change, almost a little painful, but it works. The charging port is small, so any off brand chargers that are even slightly bigger may not fit. To put the lanyard on, the back does need to be off. Overall this is an amazing case, the pros FAR outweigh the cons and I wish I would have bought it sooner!!

Compré este case para un viaje a Chiapas. El primer día cayo una lluvia torrencial y nos metimos a una cascada, el case resistió super bien y pude tomar fotos y videos sin que le entrará nada de agua al cel. También resistente a caídas, muy recomendado. Durante la lluvia el touch no es tan responsivo por el agua, pero sólo toma unos segundos más y presionar más fuerte, nada complicado.

My only criticism would be that the fingerprint scanner does not work perfectly with the case. The mute button is slightly stiff. But really it's as perfect as you could expect that level of protection to be. I'm in the construction business and my phone wouldn't last a week without it.
