Best TOY for boys or girls ages 5-8
I wanted this toy Christmas 2008 and couldn't get one! This past Christmas was about the same EXCEPT!!! Amazon came thru for me and my grandson. The price locally was like $159 and we have a large family so with everything else, taxes etc we just didn't have the extra. I found this on amazon and on SALE!!! I order it like 4 days before Christmas and rec'd a WILL BE DELIVERED AFTER CHRISTMAS.... that was ok, my grandson would wait - it would be a Rudolph gift. Bless Amazon....someone must have realized it was a child's gift - upgraded my shipping and it came CHRISTMAS EVE! Thank you Amazon soo much. This little dino was a hit with everyone, child and adult and it's still a hit. My grandson loves him and he is so funny and plays like an actual pet! I want to get one for my newest grandson who is 4 months old now! If your kids or grandkids love dino's like mine do - this TOY is the greatest!

For kids 8 and up.
My 9 yr son wanted this so badly, I made him learn his times tables first and he got it as a reward, he had waited for it and was so excited, for months he was on about it after seeing it in a toy shop. He wss initially crazy about it, but he played with it for two days and hasn't touched it since. Once he went through all the commands, saw what it could do and wore out the first set of batteries, very quickly, within the two days, he was bored. Great product, batteries on it will cost a fortune so be ready for that and older kids get bored quickly with it. I just got him a guinea pig and he's having a lot more fun with that as this dinosaur is too robotic and doesn't hold his attention, he has something now that can love him back. I think it may be better for slightly younger kids.

The whole family loves this toy! Very realistic to look at and to touch and very fun to play with. You need to use good batteries though. We opted for rechargeables since it takes 5 c size and cheap batteries get used up quick. Fun to train and sweet to look at. A great toy for any dino fan. He had the whole family, kids and adults alike, laughing and wanting to see more. Esp. his facial movements.

Relieved and hopeful!
I have been eyeing DRex for a little while, but the other reviewers about the 2009's skin made me very nervous. Because of Amazon's customer service, Mattel's product warranty and the fact that the price dropped significantly, I leaped and bought one. He arrived yesterday and so far, I could not be happier. I bought him for me and I have enjoyed playing with him. My schnauzers are intrigued too, especially when he chomps on their rawhide bones. The skin IS very pliable and perhaps the way a normal child plays with a toy makes DRex too fragile for kid use. I don't know. What I can tell you is that I am glad I took the leap of faith. This toy (a complete under-description) is just the coolest thing and this adult LOVES her DRex!

Do not Buy
Even at $100 this toy is not worth the headaches. The 2009 has skin issues which is noticeable even just glancing at them in the store shelf. Toys R Us seems to have ones it better shape for some reason, but that doesn't mean it will not have skin issues in the future. Target also seems to have a really bad batch of peeling skin D-Rex. Amazon seems to be getting rid of their stock of peeling skin D-Rex since I received one a few weeks ago. If you must buy this toy, please spend the extra money and time to find one in a Brick and Mortar Store that does not have missing skin. Even our Pleo did not have skin issues until a year later, which is shockingly more durable than d-rex- toy manufacturers need to be working with more durable polymers in the future.

My sons best friend right now
Bought this for my 7 year old son just after Christmas. He loves this toy. He initially was afraid of DREX, mostly from watching the videos on [...]. He thought his roar was going to be as loud and ferocious as a real T Rex but he soon found out it wasn't as loud as he anticipated. Other than that he has fell in love with his drex. Granted we have only had him three days but in that time he has carried him around asking him questions, playing with him, and teasing the cats. Drex is my son's new best friend during Christmas break! We have not had any issues at all with his skin. All of it is intact and my son has been carrying him around constantly. Drex gets around just fine on our wood or tile floors through out the house. My son's favorite mode is the question mode but he also enjoys the prank mode and the attack mode. When he has used the seek mode, drex came right to him. My son was only 10 feet or so away, not sure how well it would work from farther away. Cons, this thing sucks down batteries! The drex is on his second set already and it is day number 3. "He" will be needing a battery change very soon (like before lunch). We looked into rechargeable batteries but have since decided against them. After hours of researching, I don't think the drex will respond well to having less voltage to move his body parts (legs, mouth, tail, etc). Also I wasn't willing to spend an additional [...] on the possibility that the 'C' rechargeable batteries would not work since nothing else takes 'C' size batteries in our house. To combat the expense of replacing batteries, I have purchased the large value pack of 'C' batteries at a cost of as little as [...] a battery. I also will predict that drex will sit after the novelty wears off, but that is just a prediction. Kids prove their parents wrong all the time! The whole "training your drex" is a joke. What are the 30 actions? We can't even get him to do the simple actions in the instruction book very well. Overall, we like the Drex but really wish that it came with a rechargeable battery pack!!!!!!!
