Memories of my childhood reading
Though a modern day reader may find this book offensive, it tells the story of how things were in the time period. Loved being able to find the original here on Amazon.

Safe book for kids, decent quality binding, cover has notable typos
Deducted one star for quality of the cover: While the pages seem good quality and I don't see any errors in the actual content, the cover is a bit odd. It appears to be a paperback copy of maybe the original hard cover image, but particularly on the back flap, there are a few glaring typos. Given the quality of the grammar and spelling in the actual book pages, I would guess the back cover is a poor transcription of the original. That's relatively minor but I wouldn't gift this edition.Reviewing the content of the book is always subjective but here are some comments that may help you decide if these books are right for your family. Note: I only skimmed through and picked up a page here or there, but I think I got a pretty good feel for the book.Plus: safe for kids. These books are from a refreshingly proper era. No bad language, suggestive comments, bratty behavior, really scary stuff, etc. There is a bully character who the kids clash with from time to time but it's very "Leave it to Beaver" type stuff. If you're familiar with the Happy Hollisters series, these are even tamer than those. The kids are polite and respectful, look out for each other, and mind their parents.Grammar: In my opinion, reading some older material, like Dickens, Stevenson, etc., is a good thing, because their grasp and use of the English language is a step or 10 above the average person's speech today. However, especially for young readers, it can be a challenge to get used to. I think it's worth the effort, but some may find it either frustrating or hard to relate to because of the different wording. This book doesn't go very far in that direction but any reader will pick up on the fact that this is from a different time period.Story arc: If kids are already into the Hardy boys, Tom Swift, or even the Happy Hollisters, this book may be a bit boring. I have never so much as cracked open a Bobbsey twins book prior to this one, so I have no idea if the rest of the series is more exciting, but there isn't a lot of adventure; it's mostly a very nice family very nicely having some fairly ordinary experiences. I enjoyed paging through it just for the nostalgia aspect, but my kids under 10, who can pick up almost any book and read through it in one sitting, actually couldn't seem to get into this one.All in all, a safe bet, worst case they'll find it boring, best case, they will fall in love with a whole new series of books and you don't have to worry about anything objectionable in the content.

A classic
The Bobbsey Twins is a classic children's book that you can't go wrong with for your children. None of the 21st century drivel if you purchase the original rather than the "updated" version.
