Good value, not the best interface for kids
<aside>First, I saw a lot of reviews for walkie-talkies complaining that other people (strangers) could talk on them. Well, duh! WALKIE-TALKIES ARE PUBLIC PEOPLE! Anyone with the right kind of radio can listen in or transmit on the 'Family Radio Service'. It is 22-channels of completely public airwaves and there should be no expectation of privacy. Don't downvote radios for doing exactly what the government requires (transmit publicly). If you need privacy you need to do your research or buy a phone or device with a data-plan.</>These walkie-talkies were a pleasant surprise for the sweet price of $6.53/ea (got a set of 3). If you have technical experience, pretty intuitive but if not, expect to need/read the manual. The radio interface is ... not the best for kids. The push-to-talk (PTT) button function is pretty easy to use but it's a little to easy to hit the other buttons -- for example, if you press and hold the 'flashlight' button it puts the radio into scanning mode. This is important because the PTT button gets their kid-brain into the "press and hold" mode and so I saw them doing this for all the buttons. We'll get there eventually but it'd sure be nicer if advanced functions like scanning or 'call-ringing' could be turned off. Most importantly, it had menu settings that allowed the tone when pressing any button (WAY too loud) and the Roger Tone (the loud chirps or beeps after you stop transmitting) to be turned off. This was a vital function because otherwise the tones were way too loud for us AND, crucially, didn't seem to change with the volume button (for hearing other transmissions). I think the roger tone is useful but not so loud.Overall, I wanted a "starter" walkie-talkie for the cheap and was delighted. We got more than 2 so we can practice and see whether it's worth investing in an upgrade. I have not tested the range beyond "the neighborhood" of about a block and the sound was very clear, much better than I expected to be honest. Some more details & nitpicks:- As mentioned the button presses and roger tone are just way too loud but the "call" button is also blaring and somewhat easy to press. Really wish there was a way to disable this.- Doesn't seem to be any way to adjust the Monitor volume, if you press it, you get a full blast of radio static. Useful if you are conducting long-distance radio operations which a user sophisticated enough to understand they are experiencing a week signal but on this kids radio, um...?- The LCD lighting is not even-spread but rather the "single point" kind; you can read the screen but some viewing angles have glare.- Plastic colors were bright and fun, nice touch though the buttons on the yellow walkie-talkie are really difficult to read in anything but bright light.- The small LED flashlight is listed in the manual as "Mini flashlight" and this is true. It's the sort of old style LED that is functional but ya know, $6 bucks.- The manual lists 0.5W output power and 22 channels.- Model: WT88Looking forward to playing with them some more

Just what I needed
I bought these to use for my dad’s knee surgery. If he needed me during the night, he could just press the walkie-talkie button and call me. Worked perfectly but the battery life is very short. Left them on 24-7 and they were dead in 4 days. Now I’m Turing them off during the day.

Absolutely EATS batteries.
I just bought these for my kiddo to play around the house/use when we go out and about for fun. But these absolutely DESTROY (4) batteries in a pretty short amount of time. Do NOT under any means leave them unattended to where they're on overnight or for extra long periods of time. With three walkies ... 12 batteries adds up to quite a bit of $$$

One was defective
Love the walkie talkies but one of the battery prongs in one of the walkie talkies was broke and battery would not stay in so it wouldn’t work. Bought this for Christmas and missed the window to return it.

Great for Kids and Work Well
My 5-year-old loved playing with these. They were easy for him to use and he quickly learned how to press the button while talking. His friend was a bit slower to catch on. The sound is clear enough to understand what's being said, though there is less than a second delay from when the button is first pressed, so the first letter of the first word that's spoken might be missed. We used them from two houses that are next door to each other, so the range is at least good enough for that. All around these are a great buy. I also like how they come with both a string to wear around the neck and a clip to attach to a belt. I recommend these.

I tried to sets...... garbage
I bought a set of these for my grandchildren. One of the walkie talkies stopped working within the first month so I returned them and asked them to just replace the set because surely it was a flux that one stopped working. I received the second set and again, the second time my grandchildren played with them, one stopped working again. I returned them and asked for a refund. The company charged me a $5 restocking fee. First.... why are they restocking these when they don't work.... second, why are they charging me a restocking fee for returning their garbage??? I would definitely not order these; buy something from a different seller. This company is restocking items that do not even work. Good luck!

Great walkies for kids with decent range
We have a pretty large piece of property with wooded trails and a half-mile trek to the mailbox. My son is at the age where he's starting to gain some independence but doesn't need a phone yet, so we bought these. They work great! Range is very good - we haven't tested to see if it's truly 2-3 miles but we've tested them to a mile and they still work well. There is some reduction in sound quality at further distances but not enough to be a problem, and they even work when he's in our outbuilding that doesn't have cell reception which is great.Totally worth it especially at this price point.
