A Journey of Self-Understanding
This really powerful book dives deep into something called mother hunger and how it affects people's lives. It was a really eye-opening read, and it helped me understand and put a name to some of the feelings I've had. This book wasn't always easy to read because it brought up buried memories and emotions. Some parts were tough, but they helped me recognize and make sense of the deep longing I've felt inside, which the book calls "mother hunger." One of the things I liked most about "Mother Hunger" is how the author shares her own personal story while also giving insights from psychology and research. She made it easy to understand. The author's honesty and caring way of writing made me feel safe exploring my own feelings and experiences. "Mother Hunger" is not just a book about problems; it's also a book about finding solutions and ways to heal. Reading this book gave me hope that healing is possible. I think "Mother Hunger" is an important book for anyone who wants to understand more about how the relationship with our mothers can affect us emotionally. Whether you've felt mother hunger yourself or you want to support someone who has, this book has valuable insights and advice. It shows us that we're not alone in our struggles and that there are ways to heal and grow. "Mother Hunger" has had a big impact on me. It helped me understand myself better and gave me hope for healing. I'm grateful to Kelly McDaniel for writing this book and sharing her story. I think it can make a difference in the lives of many women.

Great read for starting the healing journey
Great book for an introduction to heal your childhood ptsd. It gives us the language and shines a light on what we have been feeling. When someone lives with trauma since childhood, they become almost blind to it. This book opens your eyes in a gentle way. It is empowering to know what I've been feeling, others have felt too. It is a little redundant, however perhaps those are key points she wants to drive home. Also, there weren't exercises to do, which I really wanted. It is primarily giving us the words to describe what happened. Which is powerful in itself. I would recommend this book to anyone who has lost this mother, had an abusive or absent mother. Next, use the Inner Child Workbook by Cathryn Taylor.

Great book!
Highly recommend! It’s a great book for any adult daughter that didn’t get what they needed as a child, and as an adult. It doesn’t blame parents, it helps you work through things as an adult.

Healing MotherHunger can heal generations of girls, women and moms
•MotherHUnger is unlike any books I have read on this subject. I had recently taken attended a Parental Wounds Workshop and group and issues related to the importance of healing now as grown woman. this book came at the right time and led me to take Kelly's workshop and training on MotherHunger to lead my own clients in the healing process of the painstaking wounds of early childhood trauma. This was a wonderful experience learning from Kelly McDaniel. I am so excited to bring these materials to my clients and incorporate it into my work. It is essential knowledge for women, especially those who have not experienced the love that a mother is meant to offer through her protection, nurturance and guidance. MotherHunger is the label that gives understanding to the pain and ache that is carried throughout the cells of ones soul. Kelly has a beautiful way of interlocking concepts and heartfelt conversation that provides in depth heart work and head knowledge. As she masterfully, with abandon, weaves together her natural and contagious empathy and righteous anger towards a society and acceptance of parental abuse in forms that have been dismissed as acceptable, and that overlook the vital importance of caring for it's most fragile, our infants. She also demonstrates a powerful mission towards healing generations through connecting the importance of mothers healing their early childhood wounds which scarred them in an effort towards healing the children of tomorrow. I have experienced the generational trauma and have struggled to live into my own potential as a professional, wife, mother, friend, woman and self. This book continues to tug at my heart, teaching me to go back and heal old wounds, give myself compassion and attention, protection and find the guidance that I need. I am so excited to take this into my work and help the women and men that come to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing this book!

Groundbreaking work!
This book was life-changing for me. The author calls the result of experiencing the trifecta of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse in childhood, “Mother Hunger.” It’s the perfect term for me, as I turned to food early as a replacement for love and a way to nurture myself.

Great Title, But Lacking
I was expecting more from this book. I really wanted to like it, but was put off by some of the self promotion and mentioning of previous books the author has written. I felt like I was reading a commercial early on, and that annoyed me. I do generally think that it was worth reading overall, but I felt like the chapter on how to heal was rushed and honestly a let down. I was expecting as much devotion on how to heal as the understanding part, and to me it felt like a buildup to nothing. Even the part talking about EMDR didn't even explain what EMDR really is. If you are going to say that people use it to heal, go into what this thing is so that people can decide if they would find it worthwhile. I like to keep books that I refer back to as golden advice, but this one just didn't cut it for me and I won't be keeping it.
